Great Start

It was a comfortable 34 degrees with clear sky's.  I headed out at 7 this morning-- still on  vacation.  I did 2 x Middle Country and back with 1 x Apple Court doing the figure 8.  I can always count on this route being a quiet uninterrupted route.  I saw Arlem and his wife out for a walk, although Arlem was surging ahead when I saw him(that male ego was kicking in).  All totaled I did 9.22 miles at
A pace slightly faster
Than yesterday-- actually 30 seconds per mile faster.  Blessed to have my daughters here with me!

Baptism Sunday

I went out the door at 6:45 this morning for another Sunday workout.  I did 8  x .3 mile mile hill repeats  with arm-up and cool-down with equal recovery . A cloudy drizzly morning here in Ridge.  I felt decent during the quiet of the morning.   My daughters Kimberly and Rebekah were baptized this morning at church. God is faithful. Hav a blessed day-- 5.6 mles

Sunshine at Last

I enjoyed going out to the sight of sunlight at around 6:30 am.  It was a pleasant 37 degrees.  I decided to do 2 x rt. 25 and back with one Apple Court on the figure 8 loop for 9.13 miles. I carried out a moderate pace enjoying the beauty of the day and the good feeling that comes from having my daughters with me. It's been a good week of training with 3 of the workouts coming out of Maine. Blessed!

Back In Ridge

I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 7.2 miles.  I saw Arlem and his wife out for a walk.   It was another rainy day here in Ridge. I was a bit tired and my autopilot was required to get me out the door. I am enjoying my daughters from Maine minus Kaitland who didn't come.  In spite of our hardships God is always faithful.  Have a blessed Christmas Eve-- God Bless!

Sleet and Snow

I let myself sleep in and headed out the door around 7.  It was drizzling , but I felt a slick coat of spotty ice under my feet.  The first couple of miles were slower, but as the run progressed the frozen drizzle changed to sleet. I was grateful for three good runs in Hope. I did 8.39 miles in the challenging hills of Maine. I got in some solid strength work as well. It's always nice to get home to Maine. God Bless!

Rare Sunday Workout

I decided to get a workout in after the Patriots game.  I did my usual workout here in Hope, Maine. I did 8.03 on the hills of Hope.  The hills always provide a challenge. The workout started out in light and continued into darkness.  The roads seemed busy for here. Definitely a beautiful place to workout. I am blessed to be able to get out the door and workout. Thank you Jesus!

Finishing Well

I woke up before my alarm went off.  My wife and I had a little disagreement before bed, so I woke up feeling down.  This has been a trying year in many ways, my mind has burdens on it that are just hard to articulate to those I love-- as a result I know that I am misunderstood, that bothers me.  The workouts have been a blessing.  I have been able to mull things through in my mind while I workout which has proven to be quite therepeutic.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for a total of 7.2 miles.  It was a clear 29 degrees.  Fortunately, starting next week, the days will be getting longer again. Looking forward to Christmas vacation. So blessed !

Late Start

You know you are tired when you sleep through your alarm. Fortunate, the extra rest meant a bit more energy.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.6 miles. Not a person or dog out on this clear cool late fall morning. Looking forward to great things through Christ. God Bless!

Nice -N-Early

I got out at 4:35 bolstered by the power of caffeine.  It was a drizzly morning for my 8 x .3 mile hill repeat workout with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 7.2 miles.  I have to admit that the total darkness minus the street lights gets a bit depressing on these the shortest days of the year. Not a soul in site-- no runners, no walkers, no man, no dogs.  Looking forward to a run or two at my parents in Maine as I pick my daughters up for Christmas in New York. God Bless!

27

I went out this morning with the sky void of stars. It was a comfortable 27 degrees. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  The dog walker showed at rep 6.  I felt a bit stronger than yesterday. Blessed to have a good workout. Have a great day!

Running a Little Low

I got out at 4:40 am with a clear 28 degrees. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  I saw the dog walker on rep number 2, but never did see the dog runner. I feel the touch of a cold sapping my resources a bit. Just trying to survive the week , by the grace of God. Have a blessed day!

Friday, December 12, 2014

Cool and Clear

It was a seasonal 30 degrees with mostly clear skies.  I decided to do the usual of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool down with equal recovery for 7.2 miles.  The dog watcher and dog runner were both absent for the second day in a row.  I am grateful for a good year of training even though this has been a trying year in so many ways.  Looking forward to a good weekend with all bench presses and chin-ups out of the way. Have a blessed day!

Snowy Start

This morning I was pleasantly surprised to see it snowing out. It was the type of snow that kept coming  , but melted as soon as it hit the road.  The ground must have been colder  , because the snow was sticking their.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for
as total of 6.5.   The workout was pleasant and enjoyable. Not too long and not too short-- just right. Very blessed!

39 And Drizzly

It was similar weather as yesterday, just not quite as bad.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cod down with equal recovery.  I saw the dog runner , but not the dog walker this morning. Blessed to have the consistency-- 6.5 miles.

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Mon-7.2 & Tues.- 7.2 miles

I did 8 x .3 mile warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery both days. It was windy and 27 degrees yesterday and rainy and 39 today. Yesterday saw the dog walker and the dog runner . Today only the dog walker doing a shorter route due to the rain.  Busy days here at school. Looking forward to having all of my daughters here in less than two weeks. God Bless!

Friday, December 5, 2014

Wed./Thurs./Friday

I did 8  x .3 mile hill intervals with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.5 miles on Wednesday and Thursday.  I did my old standard   Figure 8 with 2 x rt.25 and back and one Apple Court for 9.18 miles. Nice week of training. Have a blessed day!

Back to Winter

I got out of bed, had my cup of coffe and soon I was out of the door. The temp was 39 with a bit of a breeze. I was greeted at repeat 5 by the dog runner and shortly thereafter the dog walker. I did the usual of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  I felt decent, but not a world beater. I'm just glad to feel back to being myself again. I guess the week in Maine helped refresh and recharge my batteries.  I do miss my daughter Kaitland who is back  in Eastport.  I keep reading His Word and remembering that He is in control. Bible Study tonight! Oh yeah. 7.2 miles:)

Back in Town

After 5 days in Maine it was time to run on New York soil. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 7.2 miles. It was mild with a temp around 50.  I saw thean that runs with two dogs as well as the man who walks with one dog. My daughter Kaitland moved back to Maine. My heart is heavy, but I place my whole family in his hands. Have a blessed day!

Washington Street Hill Repeats!

I decided to do hill repeats as the roads were icy here in Eastport, Maine.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  This is where the hill repeat concept began for me here in Eastport with my friend Andy. We would brave the elements with hot tea and slices. The weather was often snowy and cold, but we made it out there anyway.  Those days are long in the past, but they are good memories and thankfully I'm able to keep the workout going.  Again. I'm blessed to be here in these beautiful surroundings again with my beautiful daughters. God Bless! Oh , yeah-- 6.8 miles:)

Early Run in the dark at Hope!

I got out at 4:50 to do my standard 8.1 mile workout in Hope.  The roads were pitch black with no street lamps.  Luckily there was nobody on the streets so that I could run right in the middle of the street. The last three miles I had the pre-Dawn sun making the roads more visible. Lord willing I will be enjoying my old loops here in Eastport. I'm so blessed!

Tuesday, Last Run in Ridge

I got out later at 6:20 am. I did my usual of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool- down with equal recovery for 6.5 miles. Nice and mild at 57 degrees.  Heading out at 12:30 for a trip to my parents in Hope, Maine. Char isn't feeling well, which kind of makes me feel bad. With the storm coming I have to leave early. Have a blessed day!

Enjoying a Slower Pace

I got in at just past 9 last night with Katie my second oldest daughter.  I was tired and feeling a bit under the weather last night.  Thankfully, I was tired but not feeling sick. I got out at around 7:45 am. I enjoyed running past streams, tall trees, lakes , and meadows.  I even found the trip up the steep hills pleasant enough.  I did 8.1 miles. I am so blessed !

Wet and Rainy Doesn't Dampen the Spirit

Even though I have starts vacation I have decided to start my workouts at the same time.  I just like the early morning hour for workouts.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery and warm-up and cool-down-- the usual for now.   It was raining and 57 degrees, but a workout was still the plan. Looks like a few days in Maine is in the plans at my parents. Looking forward to see what God has in store. God Bless!

Nice Friday Finish

I got out of bed with the luxury of not having to get out the door quite so early.  Katie and Jace could sleep in , because my wife was taking them to school.  It was 28 degrees and clear.  Nobody is out in this cold weather, so the roads are all mine.  I did see my friend Arlem run by yesterday.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for a total of 5.6 miles.  I am pleased with the training this week and I am feeling stronger. I am looking forward to the weekend.  I just can't shake the sad feeling I get when I think of Kaitland moving back to Eastport. Have a blessed day.

Feeling Down

It was 39 degrees and cloudy.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool- down with equal recovery.  My second oldest daughter wants to move back with her mother in Maine. This is a hard pill to swallow and makes me feel like a failure as a father. All I ever wanted is for my girls to be living for The Lord and for my girls and I to be together enjoying each other's company.  Divorce has hurt our family.  I look to you Lord!

Feeling Like Winter

Hey, it's December so the fact that it was 23 degrees out this mornin g should come as no surprise .  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 5.6 miles.  I felt decent, but stayed with the theme of taking it a bit easier.  The stresses of life have taken it's toll with me feeling tired and fatigued.  The easier load has served me well. Have a blessed day. Oh yeah, the cold weather means that nobody seems to be moving on foot.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Cool and Clear

The rain and clouds have blown away by the breeze that now is bringing in cold but clear skies. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  The plan to shorten things up is agreeing with me.  More than anything, it gives me a little more time to get ready in the morning.  I had gotten run-down with a cough and tired. The extra day off last week with the lighter load this week is turning things around.  I had been feeling down and defeated, but I know now that with Christ's help I can do all things. Have a blessed day!

Monday, November 17, 2014

Dialing it Back

This week my plan is to cut back a bit on the mileage .  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  It was 43 and raining. No to be back at it. Have a blessed day!

Nice and Early Run on Randall

I woke up with th goal of doing a longer run. I decided upon running the Randall loop . It was breezy at 44 degrees.  I am writing this blog in Lancaster , Pa. It is damp outside with a wet snow. We passed an Amish buggy and an Amish farmer with a team of horses. I did 9.02 miles at a decent pace. I had a bit of trouble in several places seeing the road so I had to slow my pace ever so slightly. Looking forward to see what The Lord has in store for me and my family!

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Tues. & Wed.

I did 8 x.3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery on both days. Tuesday's workout was at 9 am and today was at 4:32 am. I have cut down on the intensity as I have felt a bit tired. I am blessed to have the health and time to work-out.  God is so good. I do prefer the quiet streets in the early morning as opposed to the hustle and bustle of e day.

Morning Pains End in Gain

I woke up just before 3 with stomach pains.  They just wouldn't go away, so I got up just before 4.  By 4:25 I was out the door into the 36 degree air.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery. I saw the man walking his dog on rep six. He told me that he was being lazy today.  I was grateful for feeling good during the workout. A trying day brings me to this quiet time of reflection. School off with Veteran's Day tomorrow. God is so good!

Fresh Start to he Day

I got out and it was a drizzly 48 degrees.  I did an extra  warm-up for a total of 7.2 miles -- main workout of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats.  I felt drops in the middle of the run. On rep 6 I saw the man walking the dog.   I definitely feel better at the end of the week than at the beginning.  Have a blessed weekend.

Thursday, November 6, 2014

Short and Rainy

I decided to do 5.6 of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  I did less warm-up. I felt sick last night, but better this morning. 48 degrees and rainy. God Bless

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Back to the Intervals

It was 59 degrees-- the elections went well-- yay!  I did 8 x . 3 mile repeats with warm-up and cool- down with equal recovery.  Not a soul stirring. Have a blessed day!

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Back on Randall

I took advantage of the kids not having school by doing one of my old routes-- The Randall Route  for 9.34 miles.  I actually did one of my better times even though I had to stop and give directions.  It was nice to see the fall foliage as I meandered along the streets of Ridgeh Chuck. I saw Chuck and later finished up with Chuck.  Nice start to this Election Day and the P Conference at Hofstra. Have a blessed day!

Monday, November 3, 2014

Finally Some Light

I started out the workout of hill repeats with the usual darkness.  It was 39 degrees as I did my usual 8 x .3 mile hill repeat workouts with warm-up and cool- down with equal recovery for a total of 6.5 miles.  I had a weekend of feeling a bit under the weather with a bit of congestion, but I felt better today. Nice to have the light coming through as I headed for home. I saw a buck running across the road on rep 3 .  The gentleman walking the dog showed up on rep 6. Workshop day tomorrow-- God is so good!

Friday, October 31, 2014

Thursday/ Friday

I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery on both days.  Both days had a temp of 44 degrees.  Thursday was a busy day at work, so I had no time to enter my workout. I am feeling the slight effects of a slight cold-- will try to get a little extra rest. Looking forward to the time change. God Bless!!!

Running Apple Court and Longwood

I had a horrible night's sleep, but after I had my coffee I decided that I was ready for a workout.  I deviated from the hill repeats and did a slightly shorter addition to my Longwood Loop.  I ran a bit quicker. Again, I have shortened and quickened things up so that I can help my daughter out as she leaves for school at 6:15 am.  I felt fairly strong and quick and was pleased to get the work in. Have a blessed day!

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

A Bit Tired

I woke up in time with so little motivation. To get out of bed. Once I got out I found the strength to do 8x . 3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery and warm-up and cool-down. I got through althought my morale was down a bit. Have a blessed day!

Monday, October 27, 2014

Better Late than Never

I woke up late, but managed to get out the door at about the same time.  The temps were cool, but comfortable with clear skies. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery with warm-up and cool-down for 6.5 miles.  The soreness of boot camp having dissipate I was able to make it through the workout without much in the way of soreness.  Looking to get my weight back under 200-- although I know by my measurements that the weight gain is muscle.  Weight lifting is very strong right now.   Have a blessed day!

Boot Camp Makes my Booty Sore

My wife's partner at boot camp was out of town so in steps Eric.   A bunch of exercises performed in a circuit.  I definitely pushed myself at each station.  Beautiful morning here on Long Island.  Went for a 1.93 mile hike afterwards with my wife and Spencer( dog). Have a blessed day!

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Good Week

Monday- 6.5 miles, Tuesday-6.5 miles. Wednesday- 6.5 miles , Friday- Boot Camp and 1.93 mile walk with Char.  A lot going on here on Long Island-- drama and the hectic way of life around here.  I'm satisfied with the work this week, I have decided just to roll withit when things do 't quite go the way you planned.  Some rain and wind this week with more fall-like weather.  Hopefully, next week will prove to be more routine. Life too busy-- looking to Him! God Bless!

Friday, October 17, 2014

Busy Week

I did 6.5 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 5.6 on Thursday and Friday. The base workout is 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  The difference on the 5.6 days is that I don't do as long a warm-up.  Thursday and Friday I woke up late so I stuck with the basic workout. It was a  dry trying week with some issues that tried our family. God is good and has seen me through the week.  The quality is more important than the quantity .  I am blessed to have a God that sees me through the hard times. Have a blessed day!

A Longer Run

I got up at 5:30 after another rocky Sunday night's sleep.  Other temp was 43 degrees with overcast skies. The interval work is getting the job done as I ran at a good clip.  Nice to change the workout's up from time to time. The strength training is going well with sets on the bench press with 220 for 10 strong reps.  I did 9.27 miles on this Columbus Day morning. Have a blessed day!

Saturday, October 11, 2014

Blocked Out

I have been consistent and doing 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warmu-up and cool- down with equal recovery for 6.5 miles.  I did a regular workout last Friday of 7.4 miles at a decent clip.  A couple days I woke up late and did the repeats with less warm-up for 5.6 Miles.   I 've gotten 5 running work-outs last week and this week-- with 6 workouts the week before.
I usually blog at my break at school which is now filtered out by the web security at school. Can still get on Twitter and Facebook surprisingly.   My wife and her cousin went away on a trip to Vegas last week. I'm glad that she is back.  Have a blessed week.

Blocked

Our school has blocked blogspot. This is usually where I blog just as prep period begins. I usually forget to blog later on.   I did 6. 5 on Monday and Wednesday and 5.6 on Tuesday. All workouts were 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  On Tuesday I cut out part of the warm-up because I woke up late.  I really have been enjoying this workout at this time. Took today off due to traveling to Maine. Looking forward to a few runs here in the Pine Tree State. Tomorrow heading to Eastport with Ericka, Katie , and granddaughter Ryleigh.
God has blessed me immeasurably! Praying for some good days here in Maine.

Feeling Better

It seems that the beginning of the year my stomach gives me issues.  I think that it has to do with the grind here on Long Island--although, I kind of like the grind.  Workout,clean-up,breakfast, commute, work, etc. etc..  I did the 8 x .3 mile hill repeats and felt the time melt away as I got lost in my thoughts and in the workout. All totaled-6.5 miles.Have a blessed day!

Made it It

I had a sour stomach last night with some stomach issues this morning--still battling them now,but doing better.  I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery and warm-up and cool-down.  Nice cool 52 degrees at 4:40 am.  Saw a few deer lurking about this morning.  I think the cooler weather has them on the run. 6.5 miles total.
Last night we headed to East Setauket so that I could get a coffee at Starbuck from the clover machine--the best cup of coffee going. God Bless You!

Dark and Early

Rain is in the forecast thus not even a hint of light for the 8 x .3 plus warm-up and cool-down.  This workout is the new standard workout.  Didn't even see the man walking the dog this morning.  A house full of women always makes for plenty of interesting emotions.  Have a blessed day --6.5 miles

Monday, September 15, 2014

Nice Start

I didn't sleep so well last night. It seems as if Sunday night is a bad night of sleep for me.  The anticipation of the struggles of the work week I think  get the best of me.  The temp was in the low fifties so I wore long sleeves for the workout.  I did 8 x .3 miles with equal recovery plus warm-up and cool-down for 6.5 miles.  This workout allows me plenty of time to get home and get things ready for my daughter Kaitland as she has to leave for the bus at 6:15am.  I wore my new running vest and running shoes this morning thanks to birthday gifts.  Got out just past 4:30. Have a blessed day!

Friday, September 12, 2014

Cool as a Cucumber

I had another poor night's sleep.  I did have plenty of pep though for the workout of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats plus warm-up and cool-down.  The heat and humidity of last night were replaced with very nice cool air with the glimmer of the dawn peaking through the trees.
This has been a trying year for my family, but in the midst of it God is in control.  Last night my oldest daughter moved out of my house with my granddaughter Ryleigh.  My family is distraught right now. Even in the midst when hope seems lost there is Jesus in the midst of the fire in our lives. I  Him I place my hope--God Bless!

Raynor Run on 9/11

I did my workout of 8 x .3 hill repeats with equal recovery plus warm-up and cool-down.  The temps were comfortable with occasional drizzle.
I have been doing this particular workout as it allows me plenty of time to see my daughter off before she goes to school.  The key is to find workouts that help you to accomplish your goals, but also that fit into your goals outside of working out.
I saw a man running on the paved trail beside the Ocean Parkway running with an American Flag-- a very fitting way to remember 9/11.  It was a nice reminder that there are things in this life much bigger than us.  God Bless You Today!

Tuesday/Wednesday

First, I didn't train on Monday since I only got one hour of sleep after a night of not being able to sleep.  Tuesday was my 50 th birthday and I did the 8 x .3 mile hill repeat workout with equal recovery and warm-up and cool-down for 6.5 miles.  It was a good day spent with my wife and half of my children.  God has been faithful and I know he will continue to be faithful.  The forties were tough years with many changes--some definitely for the better. I will approach my fifties with boldness by the strength of the Lord.
This morning I did the same workout for 6.5 miles.  I felt fairly strong again with the temps being comfortable. The interval work allows me to finish sooner allowing me to get home in time to see my daughter Kaitland leave for the bus at 6:15.  A decent nights sleep last night --so blessed!
I am encouraged to see so many men training strong and enjoying life in their fifties.  I do draw inspiration fro other runners who encourage me by their strong efforts and consistent training. Thanks for reading my blog!

Last Minute Decision

Some days I don't really have a set route that I'm planning to run. So going to bed I was not sure which workout that I would do in the morning.  When my alarm went off--I still didn't know.  When I walked into the kitchen to get my coffee I decided that a hill session was the workout for the day. So 8 x .3 mile repeats with equal recovery plus warm-up and cool-down for 6.5 miles.
I felt ok throughout the workout--and gave a little extra effort on repeat number number 8.  The temperature was a little more pleasant.  I am going to work at noon as I have to take my daughter to Longwood High School to create her schedule.  My mother in law is in the hospital with a pulmonary embolism. She needs prayer.  Have a blessed weekend!

Cooler Temps

I was happy when I walked out the door and felt the comfortable morning air and not the heat and humidity of the last couple of days.  It was a quicker pace, probably aided by the cooler weather.  There was nothing stirring this morning with the exception of a couple of deer who darted into the woods as I approached.  Thank goodness for the streetlights or these early morning workouts  could not take place this time of year.
I've been able to train regularly since seventh grade-- with running and lifting.  I didn't realize then that I was beginning a way of life that I would continue throughout my life.  I've been blessed with the health to train, and for that I am grateful. I have changed the way that I train as I've aged.  You have to make adjustments in order to stay healthy and injury free, because my goal is to train for a lifetime Lord willing.
The total for the day was 9.58 miles on the standard loop plus 3 x Apple Court. So blessed!

Enjoying the Early Starts

I got out this morning at around 4:25am.  The humidity and heat were slightly better today as I also decided to run shirtless.  I saw a deer eating garden flowers by the hill on Raynor.  I saw only three others out this morning ,but no runners.  I have the streets all to myself at this time in the morning. I felt fairly strong and alert for the duration of the run. Just a few more days left in my 40's--this decade of my life has probably been my most trying, but thank goodness I met my Charlotte. Looking forward to what the Lord has in store for the next decade of my life should I make it to the next decade. God Bless--9.24 for the day.

Monday/Tuesday

Heat and humidity is back proving that summer is still here.  Yesterday I did the Longwood Loop(9.3 miles) and hiked from Port Jeff to East Setauket on a new hilly trail with my wife for 9.2 miles. so all totaled 18. miles on Monday.  Today I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery(with warm-up) and cool-down for 6.5 miles.  Tuesday is the first day of school with students.  I slept only 2 hours last night for some odd reason.  I got out on Tuesday at 4:15 am.  Have a blessed day!

Over the Hill

I will be hitting the 50 year mark in a couple of weeks(Lord willing) ,but looking at other folks--it's not over the hill yet.  I woke up a little late, so I decided to do the hill repeat workout of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery.  All totaled 6.5 miles. Have a blessed day!

Better Day

I have enjoyed a good week of training with fewer stresses on my mind.  That to me is a great thing!  I started slowly and grew stronger as the workout progressed.  I think this is a result of the earlier start times.  I saw my friend Chuck a couple of times.  He has put in some very solid training.  His wife runs later in the morning and not quite as far.
I ended up doing 9.24 miles doing the figure 8 plus course.  Blessed in so many ways.  Next week I will have to head out earlier in the mornings with the students back in school.

Nice Early Run

I decided to do the Longwood Loop again this morning.  Sometimes I just like the "feel" of a particular root and run it extra.  Surprisingly I saw two other runners out each going the opposite direction.  One on Wading River Hollow Road and the other on the beginning of Smith's Road-- Chuck from my street.  I felt better and ran faster as the workout progressed. I like the way of doing mile 9 -- 3 fast telephone poles with one walk. The variety of this route is appealing especially the shorter harder bursts interspersed with walking-- that's the old track runner in me coming out.  All totaled 9.22 miles. God Bless You on this Day!

Monday/Tuesday Back at the Familiar Grind

It has been a stressful summer that always ends with me back in Long Island and some of my daughters back in Eastport.  Thankfully, my daughter Kaitland is back here on Long Island with me.  I started school yesterday, and I am glad to be back to work-- it was time.  God is working I know, and I am learning the tough lesson of trusting Him when things don't work out the way I think they should.
Well, yesterday I got out early and did the Longwood Loop at 9.44 miles.  I prefer the early hour with the streets all to myself.  I did the Randall Loop this morning.  On Randall at one point I felt myself just sauntering along in my own thoughts until I heard footsteps.  I turned and saw a lady running to catch up-well I picks my pace up in a hurry and didn't see or hear from her again.  I ended up with 9.02 miles.  I left a bit later as work start time was a half hour later- thankfully!

The details would take much time which I will write at another time. Tired-- Good Night

Taking it Easy-- Again

I woke up to what now seems like fall-like conditions at 59 degrees. I decided to take it easy again since I had been feeling really sore. It has been a summer of route PRs.  A very good summer of training. I will go to school a week from Monday. I am looking forward to seeing my colleagues again.  I did 9.23 on my standard loop.

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Wednesday/Thursday

I woke up Wednesday morning to find that my cellar was flooded. A lot of work was put in to get the water out and clean things up. In the early afternoon I decided to try a hill repeat workout. I did 8 x .3 mile repeats with equal recocery.  All totaled I did 5.6 miles in humid afternoon conditions. I saw my friend Chuck running just after noon time--- inspiring me to get a workout in.  I did 9.3 this morning on the Longwood Loop.  I ran it easy in comfortable fall-like conditions. Have a blessed day!

Another Run in Maine

I got out just before 6 at my parents in Hope, Maine.  It was comfortable in the 60s and foggy. I did 8.09 miles on my standard workout. I got a chance to run up the steep hills of Hope. I saw the triathlete biking on Barnestown and a couple of lady walkers. Blessed to run in Maine again. God Bless

Eastport 10 Miler

Got out at 5 am this morrning .  So nice to get an earrly start
I am so glad to run my old routes. Nice cool run with temps in the low 50 s.  I saw a few deer wandering g about. I am so blessed to run in this place with so many memories. Love scampering up Adams Street hill.   The Dunp road was nice and quiet. Words can never express how I feel when I come back here and visit and run. Off for a walk with Char. God Bless!

PR Pendleton

Set out this morning just trying to get through a workout and ended up with a course PR. Plenty left in the tank, but that's the way I try to keep it.  Another super comfortable day.  Most likely my next workout will be in Eastport. God Bless!

Running Raynor

I got up after a good night's sleep and decided that hill repeats were what was needed. When I feel like getting the work in, in less time-- this is what I do. So 8 x .3 mile hill repeats. At one point I was chased by a retriever who was quite friendly.  All totaled it was 6.5 miles in comfortable conditions once again. Looking forward to going to Maine, although taking my daughters back is painful. God is good always!

Sleepless In Ridge

The week before my girls go back to Maine is always tough for me. I just couldn't sleep last night. I can remember 2 o clock and next it was 5:45am. I got up and worked 9.28 miles  into my morning. Good time of fellowship and Bible teaching last night at Genesis church. God is good!

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Sore and Steady

I got out at a decent time with the temp at a comfortable 66 degrees. I changed up a familiar loop. I was doing fine until mile 6 and then my left knee and quad felt sore. I ran ok. Will ice it today. I have felt this soreness the last couple of weeks. Did 9.29 miles. Have a blessed day.

Monday, August 4, 2014

Pleased

I headed out in comfortable 63 degree conditions. I felt pretty good all the way through the workout. I saw fellow runner Chuck heading out on his workout. I got out early, but not too early.  The best thing is that it's another day having all of my daughters with me.  I have been fortunate to have family by my side and I have had a good summer of training carried over four different states. Wonder how my friend Andy Seeley is doing?

Raynor Hill Repeats

I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats. All totaled 6.5 miles. Not hot , but humid. Got back to the house earlier than usual. Writing this on Saturday as Friday was busy. Have a blessed day!

Another Glorious Run

I kept singing  'You'll Never Walk Alone' as I went along the figure 8 course again--the Liverpool soccer team's theme song.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching Liverpool play Manchester City last night at Yankee Stadium. So 9.22 at just slightly a slower pace this morning. Saw my friend Arlem on the loop again. Have a blessed day!

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Nice Pace on The Figure 8

I was so glad to have a nice cool run in July-- just like my old home in Eastport. I did 9.36 miles and ran without soreness-at least less soreness! God is so good! I saw Liverpool play Manchester City tonight at Yankee Stadium. Had a great time with Char and Jqce.

Randall- Monday. Longwood Tuesday

I had nice comfortable weather for both runs.  I did 9.09 yesterday and 9.5 miles this morning. I have had a good stretch of training and enjoyed running in both Hull, Mass., and Albrightsville, Pa this summer for some variety. Oh yeah, a few runs in Hope , Maine as well.  From runs on the beach to runs in the mountains the terrain has been varied. Just feeling blessed-- good training and having all my daughters here with me. Love them dearly!

Friday, July 25, 2014

Wed - Thurs - Friday

I did 8.05,8.06, and 8.05 respectively this week in Albrightsville, Pa.  The weather changed to dry and cool for these 3 days. I switched the run up a bit running miles 1,2,4,6,and 8 fartlek style mixing up hard runs interspersed with walking. Miles 3 and 5 were run at much faster pace than the other miles. Mile 7 plus was run at normal pace. Each day I ran faster times. Family vacation is over , but while I love these peaceful rural runs in beauty I am looking forward to returning home. Family vacations are nice , but at the end everyone is tired. I'm so blessed to have gotten in these good workouts in such beautiful surroundings. I love my family.-- God is good!

Monday/Tuesday in Albrightsville.

I found a nice quiet road to run on here in the Poconos. On Monday I ran under live electrical wires that a careless person knocked down by riding into a telephone pole. Today I ran in warmer slightly more humid conditions. Yesterday, I did 8.3 and today at 8.37. I try to keep the training going on vacation without making it too difficult. Enjoying the peace and quiet of Pennsylvania.

Running Randall

It was another beautiful morning here in Ridge. Comfortable temp and just beautiful. I saw a couple of turkey on Woodlot. I used the Nike app again.
So far, it is reliable and gives me splits each mile. Lord willing, heading to Albrightsville , Pennsylvania tomorrow.  It's been difficult as my older daughter and my granddaughter will not be able to come. Tough love is tough. Have a blessed weekend. Next post should be from the beautiful Poconos!  Oh yeah, 9.01 miles:)

This Is More Like It

I did 9.24 miles this morning using the Nike App. The Runtastic App had been giving me miles that didn't exist, so I switched over-- it's a better app anyway!  I did the Longwood loop in much more comfortable conditions today. Next week, Lord willing we will be in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania. Love Pennsylvania.  Today was just a beautiful workout-- so blessed to have my daughters with me!

Hating the Humidity

I did 8 x .3 mile repeats with warm-up and cool-down for 6.5 miles. I walked and hydrated more often just to get through the workout. I saw a buck and a couple of doe's on one of my last repeats. My wife took a tick off me when I arrived home. I hate those things. The weather the past week has been rotten. Grateful for good health!

I Love to Repeat Myself

I went out the door and was greeted by 75 degrees and 76 % humidity. I cut back on my intensity so I could get the work in. I saw no other runners out this morning. I did 6.5 miles altogether. My clothes were drenched in sweat when I finished. I did see one little rabbit on Apple Court. Summer is a great season, but not my favorite for workouts. Luckily fall and spring take up half the year. Winter down here is not that bad. So enduring the heat and humidity seems to be the biggest challenge to my training. Enjoying having all my daughters here. Bekah and Katie are doing some training now. Proud of them. God Bless!

Nice Summer Workout

The humidity was gone today-- so the conditions were much more conducive to a good workout. I did my 8 x . 3 mile hill repeats again. Warm-up and cool-down and hill sprints total for a total of 6.5 miles. I saw Chuck finishing up his run as his wife was heading out to begin her workout.  Quiet house this morning with all the family here-- always my favorite time of the year. God Bless

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Mixing It Up

I did 7.2 miles this humid morning. I did 5.2 and then 2 hill repeats with the running to get there and back for a total of 7.2 miles. I had to get back for a busy day ahead of me. Just getting some work in without really caring how I get it in right now. God Bless!

Did the 8 x .3 mile repeats in very uncomfortable conditions. I saw fellow runner Chuck running by on repeat 7, No school tomorrow. Have a blessed day!

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Humid Start

I did the usual 8 x .3 mile  hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down.  It was a humid day with the temp at 70 degrees at 4:30 am. The rabbits and deer have been on the move. I saw fellow runner Chuck running in the opposite direction  on repeat umber 6. God Bless

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Monday/Tuesday

Two days of hill repeats.  The end of the school year is always hectic with everybody near the end of their limit of patience.  I did a warm-up/8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery/and cool-down. Lord willing I plan on doing this until school gets out and use the fitness equipment next week on my wife and my get-away in Hull, Massachusettes.  All stuff is subject to change:).  Both mornings were comfortable with temps in the low sixties and dry--perfect weather.
I saw a deer, raccoon, and a opossum--oh yeah, a few rabbits to boot. God is always good! Have a blessed day!

Nice Comfortable Friday Workout in Ridge

I decided to stick to the interval work for now.  The thought of doing a long workout just does not appeal to me right now. So another day of 8 x .3 mile hill repeats in dry comfortable 60 degree weather.  I find it palatable to concentrate for shorter more intense intervals right now rather than do a long workout--but then I am an ex middle distance runner.  The stretch of road that I run on is very quiet with almost no traffic early in the morning.  I saw a couple of rabbits on the top of the hill near Apple Court.  Right now I am enjoying these shorter workouts.  I try to adjust my workouts so that they are not a chore and I can get the work in. Have a blessed day!

Better Day on the Hills

The temp was 66,and thankfully it was a little cooler and less humid today.  I started the day with a good 7 Eleven coffee with a couple of caffeine shots added. This certainly helped today as I have been feeling kind of lethargic.  I again walked in the first part of my warm-up and walked the cool-down instead of jogging.  This little change is working for me right now.  I have been focusing on the 8 x .3 mile hill repeats giving a good effort.  Sometimes I make it easier on myself when I need to--and at the end of this year and with a granddaughter in the house I need easier. All total 6.5 miles. Nice quiet overcast day with a few sprinkles thrown in there for good measure. God Bless!

Hot and Humid on the Hills

I woke up at 4:15am.  I rolled out of bed and went through my morning routine. I have decided to do hill repeats to save time allowing for a bit of extra sleep.  I did 8 x .3 mile repeats on Raynor Road Hill with equal recovery. I walked a bit on the warm-up and after the repeats. I'm just concentrating on the actual repeats and if I walk on the warm-up and recovery so be it. It was 70 degrees and very humid.  The sweat was blanketing my shirt. I was glad when the work was done. Have a blessed day!

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Running Raynor Hill

I decided that extra sleep is more important than extra miles at this point in the school year. I did 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with equal recovery with warm-up and cool-down all for 6.5 miles total. It was a beautifully quiet morning with very little stirring. My girls will be out of school in Maine this Thursday. I get out a week from Thursday. The temp was a dry comfortable 66 degrees this morning making for comfortable conditions. Looking forward to a few days in Hull, Massachusettes in a few weeks with my wife. God Bless!

Monday, June 16, 2014

Hope and Eastport

I did 7.99 miles in Hope yesterday and 10.38 miles in Eastport this morning. The weather was beautiful yesterday , but this morning it was more on the dreary side with drizzle and fog. Both mornings in the low 50's. I enjoyed the Hick's 50 th Anniversary last night. Ralph and Deen were there for me when I had no place to go. Lord willing I will get another workout in tomorrow morning. So blessed to be here with my three Maine daughters. God Bless!

Run on the Sipayik

I got out at around 5:30 am on Sunday morning. I ran out and back on the Sipayik trail. I took time on my workout to take some pictures.  I love running back"home" away from the hustle and bustle of busy life on Long Island. I felt decent throughout the workout. On my second loop I ran up on the ATV trail which took me over a trestle and across the South Meadow Road.  I did see one deer just passed Marsh Lane going back towards the beginning of the trail. No eagles, and no moose--but a great workout. Lots of puddles and rail ties to dodge in places. Blessed to get the workout in! God is Good!

Did 8 x . 3 mile repeats with equal revovery and warm up and cool down. Beautiful overcast drizzly morning

Fri.-9.3. Mon.- 9.22. Tues. 9.2

So busy. I have written in dailymile , but I haven't blogged. I am tired , but the workouts have been accomplished. A great weekend on Jace's birthday in which we travelled, spent the night and went to Six Flags. The weather this week has been dreary and rainy. Getting the work in nonetheless. Looking forward to less hectic days! God Bless!

Nice Foggy Start

I felt decent again today. I feel at first like I could sleep extra. Once I head out the door I'm in workout mode. I saw a young deer in the field next to Ridge Elementary. Turkey's were out on Woodlot. Nice 9.18 miler in fog and 60 degree comfy weather!

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Busy

I ran 11 minutes faster than yesterday. It was a beautiful 61 degrees and clear. Another early start . My life is so busy right now and my energy reserves are depleted., Bible study tonight. Can't wait for school to be over. God Bless!

What A Day

I did 9.28 on the quiet roads of Ridge in the early moments of the morning. Crazy night and busy crazy day at work. Always blessed though!

Nice Friday Finish

I did 9.18 miles on my most popular loop:). Posting Saturday on Fridays run. I like having the week off from running although I do strength work. Looking forward to church tomorrow. I noticed my friend Andy was in the neighborhood yesterday. Have a blessed day!

Thursday, May 29, 2014

Slow and Steady

I got out the door at 4:18am. It was a cool yet comfortable 50 degree morning. The birds were singing their early morning songs chirping away. I did 2 x Middle Country & 1x Apple Court and the figure 8. I did 9.23 miles here in Ridge. God is good!

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

AnExtra Hour

I remembered this morning to set my alarm for just before 5 am and the extra hour of sleep did me well. I ran bit slower, but I did feel better during and after the workout. I did the three time Apple Court plus the figure 8 run for 9.37 miles. It was 52 degrees with a bit of drizzle and overcast. A lovely day to run. Spooked a deer on Ridge. a few turkeys could be heard in the distance. Have a blessed day!

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Unplanned Early Start

My alarm went off this morning and I was surprised at how dark it was outside. I quickly realized that my alarm was set for a Thursday,Friday school schedule with the early start. I took the extra time to do some extra prayer--I was thinking that perhaps God wanted me up early for prayer. I did 9.15 on the Longwood Loop. It was just beautiful out this morning. Things are always so quiet at this early time. I was a bit sore, but managed to power through the workout. Char and Ericka were still fast asleep when I headed out the door this morning. Bible Study tonight--I'm excited to see what God is going to do!

Quiet Memorial Day Run

I got out of bed just past 5. I headed out the door into the quiet of the early morning. I had the streets to myself. My mind went back to the weekend and the time I enjoyed with all of my daughters. They came down Friday with their mother and grandmother to visit Ryleigh. They spent two nights here. I always enjoy having them here with me.
Went back to bed-- read my Bible and watched CSI Miami. Enjoying the laze of the morning with my wife.
    Have a blessed day!

Friday, May 23, 2014

The Day

I have no school today as part of the long weekend! I still got up at five to welcome the morning with a run. Ericka was up fora minute with Ryleigh who was wide awake. I was out the door and do 2 x Middle Country and one x Apple Court with the figure 8 route. I ran just about the same time as yesterday. A good week of consistent workouts. I am looking forward to the two off runnng days which help revive me for the coming week/. So looking forward to my daughters arriving this evening to spend a couple of days. I am truly blessed. God is good! Have a blessed day!

Chugging Along

I had a bit of soreness, but had enough energy to put together a mediocre workout rather than a poor one. It was 57 degrees and rainy, but I was comfortable and not cold or soaked. No signs of wildlife as they were taking shelter from the rain save a few songbirds. I held my granddaughter in my arms just before the sandman took me to sleep, I did 9.2 on Longwood on this quiet early morning.  One more day before my daughters arrive to see the baby with their mother and grandmother. I am blessed!

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Feeling Alive at 9.25

It was a comfortable 55 degree morning.  The sun was peeking through as I began my workout. I was thinking that in two days my daughters from Maine will be here. I am so blessed in so many ways.  The rabbits were out in full force this morning getting their breakfast as I was gliding by.  Long Island has a beauty about it.  The smell of pollen is heavy in the air this time of year. I am looking forward to heading to Eastport ,Maine in around three weeks. Have a blessed day.

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Mon-Tues

I did 3.7 yesterday as I had to take my shift for baby care. This morning the baby slept right through so 9.07 it was-- an unexpected regular run. Blessed all the way!

Friday, May 16, 2014

Quiet Early Run for Papa!

I did 9.1 after an eventful day yesterday. Tired now, the weekend should be great! Go Bless!

Thursday, May 15, 2014

The Day

I got out just past seven this morning with a little extra oomph. I mean, I am tired ,but with my granddaughter likely on the way today I had a little extra zip.  My first mile was faster than usual with my second mile even faster.  I didn't feel as smooth as usual , but I just felt a bit more motivated. I did 9.02 on the Randall Loop. I prefer the earlier starts with much lighter traffic. Well, have a blessed day!

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Nice Cool Morning

I got out with a positive mindset.  Comfortably a bit groggy, but once my legs got moving I was ok.  I ran two minutes slower than yesterday, but I did feel more comfortable. I saw my rabbit buddies along with a couple of turkey's that tied to peck their way through a fence.  I did 9.18 and felt good. Have a blessed day!

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

Ditto-Almost

I did the same loop as yesterday and saw my clover eating pals again(the rabbits). I did 9.19--first run in a T Shirt. Didn't feel as smooth ,but ran almost the same time as yesterday. I saw a lady runner ahead of my and the effort to pull her in helped pick up the pace. Blessed for sure. Got to go!

Monday, May 12, 2014

Changes

I had a nice start to the week running my usual figure 8 loop plus three Apple Court loops for 9.25 miles. I saw a rabbit and a couple of deer. the younger deer tried to jump the fence, but didn't quite make it. The two deer ended up running along the fence toward Raynor Road. It was a comfortable 52 degrees this morning. I was thinking this morning of the changes ahead with becoming a grandfather. Didn't happen the way or when I expected it to happen, but God's grace has been sufficient for us all. Have a blessed day!

Finishing Well

I got out of bed like I have the past month feeling tired ,but knowing that I never regret getting a workout in.  I haven't started the day with a preset idea of which route I am doing--because regardless, they all are pretty much the same distance when it is all said and done. I decided today that I would do the Randall loop. I felt smooth today and the miles glided along until finally I was on the home stretch on Raynor Road. I did 9.01 along the serene streets of Ridge. I did see one other runner on Middle Country heading in the opposite direction towards McDonalds. This time of year is one of the best with the feel of hope and better times ahead. I have enjoyed many good workouts this time of year and my mind always goes back to my runs in Eastport. God did something in my life in Eastport--He used it to mold and shape me in so many ways preparing me for the challenges ahead. I'm nostalgic and often revisit in my mind the good times in the past when all my daughters were with me. The thief of divorce has robbed me of so much, but I serve a God who loves me and reminds me that this place is not my home--my home is in Heaven. So in this life I look to the Savior to lead me and to shelter me with His Presence. In Him me and my family are complete because we belong to Him!

Dia Hard

I got out at 4:15--things seemed to be going smoothly. I was at mile 1.5 when I felt the need for a pit stop--so I headed home.  After a brief stop, I headed out thinking that I could get this workout back on track. At mile 3 I felt the need to make another pit stop at home--well, this was starting to get annoying. I depend on things running smoothly in order to get the distance in and to make it to work on time.  I then headed out the door knowing that I would need a quicker steady pace to make it back in time. This put added pressure on me,but I felt like I wanted to get the distance in. I finally finished it up and was glad that I got the work in, Thank You Lord for a nice 10 mile workout-- 2 this week, and I wasn't even trying for 10 miles. God Bless!

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Tuesday/Wednesday

Busy here at work--had Bible Study last night.  I did 10.3 yesterday morning with 9.18 this morning. I feel blessed to get the work in with my life being so busy and feeling kind of tired. The workouts have still been good with good results. The usual route yesterday with my running Woodlot first and Ridge Road second for a change. Today I did the Longwood Loop. Have a blessed day-God is good!

Monday, May 5, 2014

Early, Easy, and Good

I didn't run much faster than last week, but I didn't feel as sore. Got out at 4:25 with the early work day. The streets were quiet and peaceful as I glided along the streets if Ridge. I was decent going up the hills. My weight and strength training have gone well though. I saw my friend Arlem as I was finishing up my workout. God is good!

Not the Best Week-- But Got it Done!

I did 9.19 miles on the figure eight plus 3 x Apple Court+.  I was off all week and slow. Looking forward to two off days of running. Weight training was strong though. This school is wearing me down a bit. Thank The Lord for the weekends. Went for a four mile walk at Brookhaven past night-- picked off a tick from my calf this morning. Have a blessed day!

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Cold,Wet,Sore,Tired,Slow

In to work early again. Up and out early. Did the figure 8 plus 3 x Apple Court plus. Seems like a good loop for the next few days. Did 9.13 miles in not so great conditions. God Bless!

Double Duty

My wife has been gone for two days so I have had a bit more work to do at home. I did the Randall Road again this morning. Felt more smooth , but ran two minutes slower! Work has been challenging. Tired , but still going. God Bless!

Holding the Fort

My wife is up in Maine after taking my precious daughters home--so it was my job to get things done that she usually does. I got up early so that I could get Jace out to school on time. I did 9 miles on the Randall Road. Not my best workout, yet not my worst either.  Glad to get the work in. God Bless!

Thursday

I almost forgot to put Thursday's run in the ole blog. I did 9.15 on my standard loop. Very sore and tired today. This was a matter of habit taking over where desire as lacking. Got her in on a beautiful morning. God Bless!

Early Going

I hit the road at around 4:25 am this morning. I did an easy 9 miles around the streets of Ridge. My Runtastic didn't record the last 3 miles of my workout-- it paused for a brief rest stop at my house I suppose. A few turkeys gobbling. Looking forward to the weekend. God Bless!

Going Round and Round

Taking the day off from school to spend time with my daughters. Not the best night last night, but decided to get out there and put the work in. Nice quiet run doing three laps on Woodlot for 9.28 miles. Saw a few deer running about. Whether times are good or bad my Lord watches over me!

Back to Work

I did the same loop as yesterday on Longwood.  I felt a bit sore and tired though. Saw my friends the rabbits on Apple Court. So thankful for good health and the ability to run and work out. So the total today 9.26 miles--God Bless!

Monday, April 21, 2014

Friday-Saturday-Monday

I did 5.26 miles in West Buxton.  I did 8 miles in Hope and 9.2 miles in Ridge on Longwood.  So busy traveling , but did get the work in. So glad to have my daughters here with me. God is good. Back to work tomorrow!

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Tuesday/Wednesday

I did 9.33 miles yesterday--very sore and tired. 9.03 this morning on Longwood after a surprise snow last night. Blessed!

Monday, April 14, 2014

Short Run on Woodlot

I did my first run in shorts for the year. I took my shoes out on the 3.1 plus mile Woodlot loop. Thing is I did it three times for 9.46 miles. Beautiful morning at 52 degrees and sunny with a good breeze blowing from the south. The runs continue to be beautiful. Did some nice little hikes with my wife this weekend. Nice start to the week--God Bless!

Friday, April 11, 2014

Thursday/Friday

Life at work has been busy. Today as I write this I am feeling a bit groggy. I did 9.05 yesterday doing my usual with the exception of doing Woodlot twice instead of the figure eight. I ran the entire distance instead of doing sprints, running, and walking. I went on a hike with my wife yesterday at Brookhaven after work. Today I did the Longwood Loop. I've been doing the workouts, just lacking a bit of zip.  It is the weekend so I get a bit of time off the legs--although, I usually do some my squats on the weekend and some hiking through the woods.  Work has been busy--looking forward to my three Maine daughters being here for a week. Have a blessed day!

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Tuesday/Wednesday

9.2 yesterday and 7.9 miles this morning. Yesterday rainy and today sunny and perfect. Extra praying being done. I love this time of year for training. Some of my best training has occurred in the spring. God Bless!

Inconsistant Workout

There were good sections in this workout and other sections that were lethargic--in other words, a typical Monday. Mr. Rabbit was out again this morning and the turkeys were saying their good mornings as well. I tripped at the one mile mark over a big stick that was laying in a dark spot of the road. I got up, chucked it aside and continued along. Life here on Long Island is a bit too frenetic, but it is never boring. Nice 9.29 miles in the books. God Bless!

Dodging Droplets in the Wee of the Morning

I got out at 4:30 this morning as I had to take my daughter Ericka to work at 7 before I headed to work.  I was a bit tired, so I allowed myself to back off the pace. I did 9.27 miles in the new addition of the old standby route. The difference getting out an hour early makes is huge. Almost nobody is out. The workout also is almost totally in the dark. It was a bit damp out there with more rain expected. I'm always surprised when I get the workouts in for the week. To the movies tonight with my wife and other couples in our church. Today's run involved the birds serenading me with their songs--even the turkeys. Looking forward to the weekend--especially church. Have a blessed day!

A Rested Body is a Good Thing!

I headed out the door this morning feeling refreshed from a good night's sleep. My hill sprints were strong as well as my sustained runs. It was just one of those mornings when things flowed smoothly. A sunny 37 degree morning. Moisture in the forecast--but today was good. I saw a dead groundhog on Ridge Road-- a first for me. Earlier run for tomorrow with my daughter Ericka scheduled for a 7 O clock work time. Have a blessed day! Oh yeah--9.25 miles

Fuming

I didn't get much sleep last night. A fire in the neighborhood, a late returning daughter, and a more active than usual mind. Regardless, I felt decent on my 7.06 mile run. I held a decent pace--spotting rabbits, turkeys, and deer on the run. It was 32 and overcast. Blessed to get the work in. I felt well enough to run the usual, but wanted to leave reserve in the tank for work. Have a blessed day!

No Fooling

What a nice change from yesterday, sunny and 32 bright degrees. My overall pace wasn't as quick, but I hit a much faster max speed on the hill sprints. I saw a rabbit on Raynor and 20 plus turkeys on Woodlot. I was a bit on the tired side, but still blessed to be out on the roads of Ridge. All in all I did 9.18 miles on my new standard loop. When life seems to go too fast I stick to this nice quiet figure eight loop. I was thinking as I was doing my workout of what a good runner Andy was. I miss our paths crossing on our workouts. Have a blessed day!

March Madness

I got up hearing the rain pattering my window. I got my gear on ready to attack whatever elements that came my way. First it was drizzle dampening my clothes. Then at mile 5 I felt ice pelting my face. At mile 6 it was a steady sleet and ice. I picked up the pace just to stay warm. By the end of the run I was glad to have braved the elements for another 9.18 miles. Blessed and have a great day!

Nice End to the Week

I got out this morning to find the temperature was a comfortable 41 degrees. The sun was losing the battle with the clouds. I was pleased to be able to get the five workouts in. It's always a good feeling to get the fifth workout accomplished. I always worry myself in getting the five workouts done, and usually by the grace of God get the work done. I did the usual figure eight for 9.08 miles. Have a great weekend.

9.12 and 9.14 on Wednesday and Thursday!

I have been busy-- work has been challenging and life always throws a few curveballs at you. I did a new version of my figure 8 loop with 2 x Middle Country and 1 x Apple Court. Both days I ran about the same pace. I've been tired , but not quite lethargic. I've tried to give a decent effort  without killing myself. Yesterday, we missed the snow , but the winds were howling and the a temperature cold. Today it was 22 degrees, but the sun was out. My entire house is sick. I hope that they all get better soon. I am blessed to be able to train in another beautiful area. My workouts are my sanctuary from the distractions of life. I often use the workouts as a time to reflect, pray, and problem solve. Blessed-- have a great day!

Marching back Into Winter

I didn't check the temp this morning, before I headed out the door. The temperature seemed cool--but--it couldn't be too bad. Well, I got out early so I decided to do the Longwood loop for a total of 8.94 miles. I saw a rabbit and Ed walking his dogs on Apple Court. I felt good as I ambled along the pre-dawn streets of Ridge. I ended up with one of my better times without killing myself. When I arrived back home I noticed that the temperature was 14 degrees--cold for March with snow on the way. Anyway, despite the trials of life I am blessed! Have a geat day!

Monday, March 24, 2014

Springing into Winter

The sun was bright when it snuck out for sunrise, but the temperature felt like January with a shrill breeze coming out of the north over Long Island Sound. I did a different variation of my figure eight for 8.96 miles. I felt decent ,  but not world beating. I saw fellow runner Chuck coming up the hill on Raynor as I was entering my second lap. Blessed to get the work in! Have a great day!

Friday, March 21, 2014

Beautiful Friday!

It is so quiet in the early morning here in Ridge. I did 9 miles on the Longwood Loop. I had the streets all to myself  save one walker on Middle Country. This area is beautiful for sure. I find myself soaking in the scenery as I meander through Ridge. This part of Long Island is beautiful-- and it's spring. My youngest daughter Kimberly turns 15 on Sunday-- oh how I miss her and her sisters. God Bless!

Thurs 10- Fri. 8- Sat. 8- Mon. 8.9-Wednesday. 8.9 -Thurs 9

I've been so busy with running in Eastport,Hope, and back home in Ridge. I've put workouts on dailymile, but not blogging--sorry. I prefer the blog , but dailymile is quicker with my phone app. Life has been busier than I like, but I did run in a blizzard, and I'm slippery streets while in Maine. I so enjoyed my time with my daughters , but the time goes by too quickly. Life here on the Island is good , but very busy. I am keeping my eyes focused on Jesus. Have a great day!

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Tues-Thursday

I did my hill repeat of 8 x .3 miles for a total of 6.5 on Tuesday. Took Wednesday off with a trip to Eastport and a visit with my brother and family on the docket.  Today I did 10.27 around Eastport. I will try to write more tomorrow. God Bless!

Pleasant Run in the Snow

This was my first workout after the time change. I felt o.k., more mentally out of it than physically.  I did the Randall run.  I felt a bit of moisture hitting my face. I wasn't sure if it was rain or snow.  When a car went by I was surprised to see a light snow falling. This is the best type of snow,it's pretty falling but melts as it hits the ground.  I did 8.9 miles. I felt surprisingly good considering I did all my goblet squats on the weekend. My hill sprints were strong.
A couple of birthdays this month. My daughter Rebekah turns 16 on the 12 and Kimberly turns 15 on the 23 rd. I sense a surprise may be coming. Have a blessed day.

Friday, March 7, 2014

Great Start to Friday

I got out at 4:30 this morning gliding along the streets of Ridge. It was a milder 27 degree workout. I did the Longwood Loop to change things up a bit.  Nobody stirring at all in the wee hours of the morning. I was dressed just right--not too hot nor too cold. I felt decent for the second day in a row for 8.95 miles. Looking forward to the weekend and a couple of off running days, although I do the bulk of my leg work with the weights. My wife and I have been hiking both days of the weekend as well--kind of active rest. My step-son Jace has a wrestling match tonight.  Have a blessed weekend!

Old Man Winter Doesn't Want to Go

This is the winter that just doesn't want to end. It was 16 degrees and very windy this morning. I felt quick for once-- and ran a much better pace today with the extra zip in the legs. I did 8.85 on Randall. This is a pleasant loop to run and offers a nice change of pace. Not many folks afoot on this chilly late winter morning. Looking forward to seeing my daughters in Maine soon! Have a blessed day!

Going Through the Motions

The last couple of months has been a victory of habit over enthusiasm. I'm grateful that even though I don't feel like it ,I still get out there and get the work in.  I'm always glad when it is done that I made the effort. Nice time at Bible study even though I almost fell asleep--due to tiredness!  It was a balmy 19 degrees. I ran a bit faster and was not quite as sore this morning--gratefully. Strength training has been going decent of late. Have a blessed day and thanks for reading this humble blog.  Oh yeah, did 9.12 miles with my weight down to 192.

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Thoughts of Moving South

My first three winters here were not bad--mostly 30 degree morning runs--not bad. This year, teens, single numbers, and a couple just below zero--this is Long Island not Maine. I got in my usual multi-layered garb and gave it the old college try. I saw a rabbit and a family of four deer. The grounds are covered in white once again. All things said and done I am grateful to get the workouts in. God is good!

Cold and Snow makes it Slow

I woke up to see the streets blanketed with a thin coat of snow. I checked the temp and dressed accordingly.  I was surprised when I hit the road that it was freezing and uncomfortable. I warmed as I progressed on the run.  My time was a couple minutes faster than Friday, but the snow limited my speed. Nonetheless, another workout in the books. I am so blessed to have this workout time--it has been a constant over the years. I am so blessed and God has been so good to me. I'm looking forward to seeing the things that God has in store for me and my family!

Friday, February 28, 2014

Slow but Sure!

I got out with enthusiasm this morning in the freezing cold of sub-zero wind-chills and 10 degree air temp. I had so many layers on that I felt like I was running in a dream--moving but making little progress. I did the same loop with a tiny addition for 9.08 miles on the 3 x Apple Court and the figure 8. The muscles were tight ,but the spirits were light. Blessed to get five good workouts in with the strength work included. Have a great weekend all!

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Cold Start Reminds me of Maine--again!

I got out and was feeling the frost collect on my eye-lashes. A bit of spring in my step today. Nice 8.83 miler. Got out a bit earlier and a good start to the day. God Bless!

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Everything the Same

I got up and out at about the same time as yesterday. I haven't been getting right out of be,but once up I'm getting around in good season. It was 19 degrees, but didn't feel too cold. Felt decent on the hill sprints. A bit dark with snow flurries in the forecast--all totaled , 8.86 miles! God Bless You!

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Bright and Cool

Got out after another not so great rest night ,although it was better than last night. did the 3 x Apple Court and Figure Eight Loop. Nice 8.98 miler. Streets fairly quiet! God Bless!

Monday, February 24, 2014

Good Run on Night Oil

I couldn't sleep last night. Just seems to happen every now and then. I did the Randall Run for 8.94 miles. It was a sunny 36 degrees and I saw Chuck starting out on his run as I was finishing my run! New week new schedule at work. Looking to The Lord for His strength and guidance! God Bless!

Friday, February 21, 2014

Thursday-Friday

I did a slippery icy 9 miler yesterday on Longwood and a wet and foggy 9 miler on Randall this morning. Both runs weren't the best or fastest, but they weren't terrible timewise either--just felt a bit sore and not fully engaged each day. Blessed to get the work in on a very busy week.

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Slow on Longwood

I did the Longwood Loop on a sheet of ice this morning. The thaw from the day before froze in the night. I could get very little traction, but managed to find some footing. It was a beautiful morning other than the ice. Blessed!  Total of 9.06 miles

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday

Just barely keeping my head above water right now--training thankfully is going well!  I did two runs in Hope,Maine of 8.06 miles and 6 miles. Today in Ridge I did 8.45 miles. My life seems disjointed and disappointing right now. Things that I just don't know how to handle or fix. Lord, I look to you!

Friday, February 14, 2014

Cupid Must Think I'm Stupid

This morning I set out to do between 6 and seven miles and managed 6.4 miles. I ran Apple Court,Woodlot, and up and down my road where the footing on this slippery morning was best. The plows actually made things worse by packing down the slush into hat seamed like ice! This has been a winter where it seems like I have to constantly adapt to fit the bad winter weather-- just like Eastport. I have no school at my school in Nassau County which means hat I get  a three hour head start on my trip o Hope,Maine to see my daughters and to celebrate my parent's Fiftieth Anniversary. Happy Vqlentine's day and have a blessed weakens!

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Bonus Run

Got out later since school was cancelled.  I did 8 x .3 mile repeats with equal recovery. All totaled 5.6 miles. Blessed to get the work in on a lazy day minus the shovelling.  Blessed!

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

In tThe Quiet of the Morning!

I ran my 2 x Woodlot with one out and back to rt. 25 for a total of 7 miles. Woodlot has been so quiet and free of traffic. Today seemed to be warm in comparison at 14 degrees. I saw my fellow runner Chuck pass by my house after I had finished my run. I think he did the same loop that I did. Blessed to be able to get the workouts in!

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Basically The Same

I did seven miles again running basically the same route as yesterday with the exception of running to rt. 25 and back and then 2 x Woodlot. Just seem to be too busy these days. God Bless!

Monday, February 10, 2014

Running on Empty

I did not sleep well last night, but I hate to start the week with a zero. I ran to Apple Court and back and then 2 times the Woodlot Loop for 7 miles. I have been running the full length lately as opposed to running and walking--which I do to save my knees. Lately, I just want to get the work in and done so I've cut the distance a bit to save the wear and tare on the body. Still a bit groggy, but I'm looking to the Lord to get me through the day. God Bless!

Thursday, February 6, 2014

The Road Less Travelled

I did the same Woodlot loop that I did yesterday. I'm just sick of struggling on slippery roads that have no room to avoid cars--so I've cut back my mileage and have run a more secluded loop. I was just not looking forward to my workouts--so I cut back for the meantime. So another 6.2 in the books. Missing my Maine daughters badly. Have a blessed day!

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

10 K on a Snow Day!

I read my Bible and waited for the call--No School-- another day out of April Vacation. I enjoyed running the Woodlot Loop twice on the snow covered roads. I could feel the freezing rain hit my face as I ran up Raynor. Not many folks out-- but it sure was pretty. I am truly blessed!

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

Bad Roads

I did hill repeats again. This section of road is wide and the traffic is slow and sparse. Not many out with many schools having delayed starts. A man resting in his plow truck was there for 6 of my 8 .3-mile repeats. The trees were weighted down with snow. I was a bit tired, but felt satisfied when the work was finished. Have a blessed day!

Monday, February 3, 2014

Snowy Hill Repeats

I did my 8 x .3 mile hill repeats this morning-- all totaled 6.5 miles. We had a snow day. The trees were beautiful weighted down with snow. Did lots of shovelling today. Supposed to get another storm on Wednesday. Blessed to have a day off with the family.

Friday, January 31, 2014

Slow and Tired

I did 9.02 slow miles. I got out around 4:30. Not much going --peaceful streets. Finally saw a deer after a few days of seeing nothing. Blessed to get the work in. God Bless!

Thursday, January 30, 2014

4 Lorn

I did nine miles this morning--not fast--but considering the 4 degree temperature,I'm blessed just to get the run in on the Apple Court figure eight loop. Nice bright day,but I could feel the temps under all my layers. God Bless!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Slip Sliding Away

I was playing basketball like a young man last night. This morning after running 5.7 on slippery roads I just feel stiff. Have a blessed Day!

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Reminiscing

The weather here on Long Island is reminding me of my old home. Not quite sub-zero with poor footing, but not the usual mild winter that we usually get. I did the Randall Loop with a good number of layers to provide a comfortable workout--and I was comfortable--just felt kind of weighted down. It definitely takes longer to get dressed and undressed with these layers on. So I was blessed to get in 9.09 miles on this 14 degree windy morning. Jace has wrestling and basketball practice tonight. Miss Kimberly,Rebekah, and Kaitland!

Monday, January 27, 2014

Saturday-Monday

I wanted my rest on Saturday, but wanted to get something in to make up for the missed workout on Wednesday due to the storm. So in the afternoon I went on a 4.16 mile walk through the woods at the Brookhaven park with step-son Jace and the dog Spencer.  This is one of my favorite spots to get away from it all.  We saw a few deer and just a couple of hikers. Today I did 9.02 on the Apple Court figure eight loop. I was a bit tired and sore from my weights. I had a nice weekend with my family. God and family--that's where it's at. I didn't have a lot of fuel in the tank, but I did enjoy the workout in the mild 39 degree weather. Blessed!

Friday, January 24, 2014

Hill Repeat Hill Repeat

I did 6.5 all totalled with 8 x .3 mile hill repeats. Decent week of training considering the cold temps and snow--feels like back home in Maine. Tired and sore, but always blessed!

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Eskimo Run

I bundled up in four layers and ran my 8 x .3 mile hill repeats. I considered today a bonus with a 7 F degree run day--cold for Long Island. I felt decent, just had to watch my footing as I ran up the snow crusted incline up Raynor Road. Took yesterday off to shovel and spend time with my wife and family--did do some upper body work though. Just feeling fortunate to get a good workout in on a day when the temperature and roads had me feeling like staying in--glad I ventured out!

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Monday- Tuesday

I did 9 miles yesterday and today on the Longwood Loop. Both days were done in nice comfortable winter conditions. I worked at the church yesterday so I didn't think to blog. Blessed to have good health. Snowy commute home tonight. The storms this year have had rotten timing--oh, well!

Friday, January 17, 2014

Changing it with Randall

I changed my route up today, and felt rejuvinated.  Did a nice 9 miler on Randall. Finally, the sun was out and my spirit lightened as well. Much quicker pace today! Blessed--off to Peddler's Village with Char after work!

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Bummed

I am grateful for a good week of training. The fog was thick again, but fortunately the temps were nice and comfortable so it was not icy. I just had no zip today. I got out later than usual. When I get out later I don't enjoy the workout quite as much as I feel under the gun to get back and ready for work. I saw my friend Arlem on Ridge and Raynor out walking on his route. Looking forward to a weekend in Pennsylvania with my wife. Yay--blessed! Nice 9.06 mile workout.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Running in a Fog

The temps was 32 degrees with lots of water on the roads--resulting in greasy conditions. Per usual when running here in the winter--Maine has prepared me for just about everything.  I ran a bit slower with choppier steps and made out just fine. I didn't feel quite as fresh as the other two days, but I made out ok.  I did have a decent 9 mile workout. I am just so blessed to be able to keep training. God is so good.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Light Rain, Nice Workout!

I got out a bit later this morning--luckily my later work start time helps out in giving me leeway in getting my workouts in. I was up a bit later last night to pick Ericka up from work. I felt decent on this workout on this quiet rainy morning. Not many people out and around on foot in these conditions. I've been missing my three daughters in Maine more than usual lately.  I'm blessed to know that my Heavenly Father has my life and my families life in His hands! God Bless--nice 9.07 miles.

Monday, January 13, 2014

Great Start

Got out on a beautiful winter morning. 30 degrees and clear. My good friend Arlem was working out and saw him near the school on Ridge. Blessed to have a nice 9.1 mile workout!

Friday, January 10, 2014

Thursday, January 9, 2014

Better Temps

I did 9.07 in better temps in the twenties. A beautiful winter's day. God Bless!

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Remember the Maine

I decided to get out in the 9 degree F and sub-zero wind-chills to remember the old days of running in Maine. I've run in colder, but it has been awhile since I've run in such conditions. I felt surprisingly good as I was rested and properly dressed. I can run a bit later as my work schedule has changed with a later start. It felt good to get outside for awhile.Feeling blessed! Did 9.08 miles.

Monday, January 6, 2014

Back Nine

I did the ole 3 x Apple Court and the figure 8 loop for a total of 9 miles. The temps were mild and the roads were flooded in many places. I will try to do this loop this week. Tomorrow the temps are suppose to be very cold-- but I'm more concerned with ice on the roads being the State of Maine product that I am. I'm blessed to have a good string of injury free running. Miss my three youngest daughters terribly. God Bless!
Ps. I did not get selected for Grand Jury Duty-- my card was never drawn. I was hoping for a shorter commute for a few weeks. Oh well!

Thursday, January 2, 2014

Mon.-Tues.-We'd.-Thurs

I did  Monday 4.3 miles plus shovel- Tues. 95 min on the exercise bike- Wed.-  95 min on the exercise bike. Thurs.-  6.5 miles 8 x .3 mile hill repeats!  One workout in Eastport, three in Hope and one back in Ridge , on Long Island.  The common thread of this week was snow and cold weather. Sunday in Eastport was the exception. Blessed-looking forward to a couple off days. God Bless!
