Snowy Start

I had a decent night’s sleep after a relaxing evening with my wife. I did the same workout as yesterday doing the Woodlot Loop twice with the third loop cutting through on the trail. I did 8.56 miles in 2:01:32 for a 14:11 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 196 feet with an average heart rate of 115 bpm at a temperature of 27 degrees at 90 percent humidity. For the most part the footing was decent with only a few slick spots. I have PD and parent night tonight so it will be a long day. God Bless you!

A New Take

I got out my usual later start for the week. Despite my good intentions I just can’t seem to head out the door on the right side of early. Fortunately, traffic has been good on two out of the three work days meaning I’ve gotten to work on time. Today I decided to try a different way— I did the Woodlot Loop three times , but the third loop I cut across on the trail after going down the first hill and back up. It turned out to be the perfect distance going 8.53 miles in 1:57:29 for a 13:46 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 204 feet with an average heart rate of 113 bpm at a temperature of 22 degrees and 46 percent humidity. I really liked the loop as it was very quiet and traffic free. I’m glad that I tried something different. Praying that God will do a work! I know He will!

Beautiful Last Morning in Maine

I woke up after another comfortable night’s sleep. It has been a relaxing time in Maine. A time of visiting and working out. My pace has not been fast, but the distance has been good. More importantly my hamstring has not been an issue. My knees have also felt better. This morning I did the Howe Hill/Barnestown Loop. There were a fair amount of cars out so I took the route less traveled. The air was comfortable and the sun was welcoming. I did 9.27 miles in 2:12:44 for a 14:18 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 943 feet with an average heart rate of 116 bpm at a temperature of 27 degrees and 66 percent humidity. There are so many things I am thinking about and just thinking “Lord, what are you going to do here”? For now I am grateful for a good time in Maine and am looking forward to a weekend at home— a chance to rest up before another week of school. Looking to you Lord❤️🙏🏻

Snowy Workout in Hope , Maine

I headed out the door glad that the temps were warmer , but knew that the footing would cause the pace to slow. I did the Barnestown Loop with a second partial Loop that went 1.5 miles down Howe Hill road(more or less). I went two poles down Barnestown Road before I reversed the Loop. Here are the stats- 9.04 miles in 2:12:51 for a 14:42 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 912 feet  with an average heart rate of 118 bpm at a temperature of 26 degrees and humidity at 95 percent. Have a blessed day!

Ditto Day two in Eastport

I woke up after another comfortable night’s sleep at the Motel East. I have enjoyed the alone time. Waking up alone with a beautiful view of Passamaquoddy Bay and delving into the Word of God has been a blessed time. There are times when it is good to be alone and gain a perspective. I have of course also enjoyed visiting with my daughter Kaitland and my grandson Keon. I have also enjoyed sitting around the breakfast table the past couple of mornings with the “regulars”. During this time I have been just Eric— not eric the husband, not eric the father, not eric the teacher or the coach— just eric. Today I did the same workout as yesterday, just varying the sequence of the loops ever so slightly. The stats were almost identical—9.52 miles in 2:15:29 for a 14:13 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 732 feet with an average heart rate of 118 bpm at a temperature of 8 degrees and 57 percent humidity. It has been good to be home back in Eastport for a couple of days. The views are spectacular and the people are warm. There’s still a chunk of my heart here in Eastport. Looking forward to seeing my parents Lord willing later this afternoon. The time here has been restful. God is faithful and God is good! Not sure if the last chapter of my life in Eastport has been written yet. One thing for sure, God would have to move powerfully to get me nad my wife back in Eastport. Have a blessed day!

Cold Once Again in Eastport

I had a long cold night’s sleep in Eastport. The wind was howling through the hours of the night. I didn’t want to come out from under the covers. I finally roused up the courage to get my workout clothes on and venture outside . I did my usual North End loop , In-town Loop, and Dump Road Loop along with a couple of hills south end. Here are my stats-9.55 miles in 2:15:47 for a 14:13 minute per mile pace, with a 703 foot elevation gain with an average heart rate of 119 bpm with the temperature at a cold 7 degrees with the windchill well below zero at 62 percent humidity. I’ve heard some encouraging things from friends here in Eastport— God is faithful! Lord willing another workout tomorrow. God Bless You!

Early Start Before Eastport

I didn’t have the longest night’s sleep, but after some caffeination and reading my Bible I was ok. I did one of my shorter routes since I had a lot of movement and miles for a weekend. There was some snow and freezing rain on the roads, but the footing was ok. I did my new usual loop with a reverse Randall Loop. I did 8.39 miles in 2:05:02 for a slow 14:53 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 301 feet with an average heart rate of 107 bpm at 32 degrees and 96 percent humidity. On the ferry now . Looking forward to a good visit and God’s blessing.

Friday/Saturday

On Friday, I slept horribly the night before my workout . My stomach hurt most of the night, limiting my sleep. The problem with working out so early is that if sleep is fleeting there is no buffer, meaning that I must workout on empty. I did work out and my time was slow. I did the Woodlot loop three times doing 8.92 miles in 2:10:51 for a 14:39 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 245 feet with an average heart rate of 108 bpm at a mild temp of 40 degrees and 82 percent humidity. Today I did the Greenway trail doing 9.94 miles in 2:51:27 for a 17:14 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 100 bpm and an elevation gain of 658 feet at a temp of 34 degrees with humidity at 58 percent. There was a large group of women’s runners running the trail today. Overall it was a beautiful morning. I had a green coffee habiscus and green tea drink with a scone at Starbucks simce
I already had a Dunkin’ Donut’s coffee and a donut glaze stick. We picked Jace up last night to spend the weekend. Have a blessed day!

Despite My Best Efforts ...

I fond myself behind. This week I have had something a little extra to do that seems to cut into my energy reserve for the next day. Thankfully I have been able to get my work done. Today I did my new route reversed direction doing 8.48 miles in 2:00:06 for a 14:09 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 191 feet with an average heart rate of 111 bpm at a breezy 32 degrees and a dry 56 percent humidity. Happy Valentines day 2019! God Bless!

A Little Off

I woke up a bit tired as my stomach was playing up for awhile in the middle of the night. In addition, last night there were little annoyances with people doing chores in my space. When you’re tired little things can set you off. I decided to do my short loop as I was late from dealing with my stomach issues. I did 8.31 miles in 1:57:06 for a 14:05 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 158 feet with an average heart rate of 109 bpm at 33 degrees and 100 percent humidity. Still tired. Have a blessed day my friend.

Hoping for Nothing

I went out this morning expecting a messy commute on my trip home from school. My friend from work elevated my hopes with his texts during my workout. In my mind I pictured a snow day— laying in bed watching TV with my wife. My hopes were doused in reality when I got home and saw no cancellation. The good news, was despite a later start to my commute I arrived early thanks to many schools being cancelled opening up the usually crowded roads. I could not believe when I saw the exit to Nassau road. Here are my stats on a route(having reversed the direction of my route starting at Ridge road- 8.55 miles in 2:02:12 for a 14:17 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 258 feet with an average heart rate of 110 bpm at a temp of 29 degrees and 40 percent humidity. Have a blessed day!

Monday 8.84 in 2:06:30 for a 14:18 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 210 feet with an average heart rate of 113 bpm at 31 degrees and 62 percent humidity. Have a blessed day!

A Little Bit Further

I decided at the outset of my workout that I wanted a quiet secluded workout. I decided to do the Woodlot Loop 3 times. My calf and hamstring were in decent shape so I was able to keep the pace under 14 minutes per mile. I did 9.12 miles in 2:04:47 for a 13:41 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 226 feet with an average heart rate of 113 bpm at a temperature of 39 degrees and 97 percent humidity. Lord willing I am going to Montauk tonight with my wife for her birthday. Have a blessed day!

Feeling Good

My upper calf was a little stiff so I did some stretching before and during the workout to keep it loose. It was a drizzly and overcast, but my spirit was light. I did 8.43 miles in 2:00:43 for a 14:15 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 186 feet with an average heart rate of 109 bpm at a temp of 38 degrees and 98 percent humidity. There was a jogger that popped out from Apple Court. I usually would have ran the remaining half mile just to beat him, but with my hamstring and now calf issue, I did not want to push the issue. I am happy to be able to work out without pain, so I stayed with the walking. Have a blessed day!

A Little Off

Ever since Christmas, I have felt a little off my game. That said, I am also grateful that I haven’t gotten sick as of today which is a blessing. Today I did my usual again doing 8.28 in 1:59:13 for a 14:24 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 170 feet with an average pulse of 107 bpm at a temperature of 34 degrees at 69 percent humidity. I am blessed!

Backing off my pace as I aggravated my hamstring in Texas. The past two days the hamstring has been ok. God is good always!

Deep In The Heart of Texas

My wife encouraged me in getting a workout in , so without hesitation I obliged. The weather is overcast and in the 50’s. The scenery was bland , but it’s always cool to get a workout in a different place far away from home. I ended up picking some cotton on my way this morning. It’s cool to see it growing right beside the road. I did 9.34 miles in 2:11:51 for a 14:06 minute per mile pace with a minimal 119 foot elevation gain with an average heart rate of 116 bpm  at a temp of 54 degrees and 96 percent humidity. Have a blessed day!
