Not Much Sleep— No Problem

I had to pick my daughter up from work at 11 last night, so a 3:50 wake-up time was slightly challenging. Thank God I managed to get up and around and do the Medford/Randall/ Woodlot loop doing 8.84 in 1:58:01 for a 13:20 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 189 with an average heartrate of 110 bpm at a temp of 51 and 100 percent humidity.  I was expecting thunder showers , but instead was happy to see some blue skies as the sun peaked it’s head through the darkness to bring in the dawn.  Have a blessed day!

Running over The Hump

I woke up seemingly more rested than the past weeks. The long weekend has proven to be a good friend. My wife and I walked the 3 mile trail down in Wertheim last night. A nice quiet peaceful walk.  This morning I did the Scenic Hills/Longwood/Medford Loop doing 9.23 in 1:56:54 for a 12:39 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 291 feet with an average pulse of 129 bpm at a temperature of 61 at 100 percent humidity.  I interspersed some jogging to ensure I did the
Bench Press, Chin-Up , and Fab 40 before work. Looking forward to what God will do!

Back at It Tuesday

I woke up ready to go with the long weekend working it’s restorative magic.  I did the Scenic Hills, Longwood, Medford Loop again doing 9.14 in 2:02:23 for a 13:23 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 329 feet with an average pulse of 112 bpm at a temperature of 58 degrees at 99 percent humidity.  Not the fastest pace, but I felt food doing it. Had to stop to take a pebble out of my shoe at mile 8. Have a blessed day!

Memorial Day Saunter

I didn’t set my alarm, and I found myself waking up a bit past 5.  I drank my coffee and then just let myself get sround slowly. It was 52 , drizzly, and overcast.  I decided to do the Longwood/Medford Loop doong 9.43 miles in 2:07:32 for a 13:30 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 340 feet with an average pulse of 115 bpm .  It gelt nice to do the workout in daylight and not having to feel rushed.  I am also realizing that my blog has been active for nearly 10 years with most of those years taking place here on Long Island. I did so many years of training in Eastport yet the log for those years rests in my mind.  It was Andy Seeley who inspired me to blog.  I enjoyed reading in his blog about his workouts and his thoughts.  He was ahead of his time using technology using the garmin 10 years before me. In blogging I am attempting not only to record , but to capture time.  My blog is a secret waiting to be discovered by those who may want just a little peep into my life and thoughts through antecdotes of my workouts. Have a blessed day! Happy Memorial Day!

Friday/Saturday

Friday was my last day without Charlotte. For all the fun you think you might have alone it always ends up with mostly “Missing You “.  I woke up earlier hoping to give myself some lounging around time, but as usual I got out the door a couple of minutes late. I did the Medford/Randall/Woodlot Loop doing 8.81 miles in 1:55:11 for a 13:04 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 188 feet with an average heartrate of 115 bpm at a temperature of a comfortable 58 degrees with humidity at 78 percent.  Yesterday I did an active recovery workout on the Port Jefferson/East Setauket Greenway trail. I went out in my jeans and ended up regretting it as it was warm and humid. I did 7.49 in 1:57:24 for a 15:39 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 493 feet with an average pulse of 108 bpm st a temp of 71 degrees and 77 percent humidity. I pick up a coffee which I order on the go which I drink as I return down the trail. I ended up seeing a painted turtle snd got within 8 ‘ of a deer. The route is well traveled on a Saturday morning. I actually go on this trail a lot and see a lot of the same folks. I usually don’t post the workout since it is mainly for enjoyment. The scenery is just beautiful. Off to run an errand. Have a most blessed day!

Revisiting an Old Route

This week I go out the door not knowing what route I am doing.  I just let
my feet and instinct direct me. Even though I got up a little earlier it seems as if I get out the soor at the same time. Two more nights without Charlotte. I did the Ridge Road Loop as it is the quietest and most removed of all of my routes. I did 9.45 in 2:00:15 for a 12:43 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 116 feet and an average heartrate of 115 bpm at a temp of 58 degrees and humidity at 77 percent. It has been a food week of training. Have a blessed day!

Day 2 Without You!

It’s funny how you change and you don’t even realize it. You would think that having my room all to myself would be a treat, but I sure do miss my wife. My routine is only marginally changed with my wife gone. I just don’t have to tippy toe around so much. I have been getting out rhe door to work earlier, but arriving for work later as traffic has been horrible. On my commute last night my route home changed numerous times, yet I was only twenty minutes late thanks to Google Maps. This morning I did the Scenic Hills, Longwood, Medford Loop doing 9.14 in 1:59:13 for a 13:01 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 358 feet with an average pulse of 113 bpm at a temperature of 51 degrees and 97 percent humidity. God gave me a nice quiet evening at home last night. God Bless!

The Way it Otta Be

I woke up a little before my alarm which was set 5 minutes earlier. I was able to sip
My coffe down in a relaxed manner before escaping to the kitchen to prep for my morning workout. I ended up getting out the door a minute late:). I decided totally by feel once again on my course— heading out the door and letting my feet decide which route that I am taking. Today I took the Ridge/Randall/Whiskey Loop doing 8.9 in 1:51:41 for a 12:33 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 151 feet at a temperature of 59 degrees at 100 percent humidity. Ryleigh turns 4

Yesterday was long with teaching 7 classes, voting, Bible Study, and a parental speech were part of the agenda. The highlight was yesterday being my oldest granddaughter’s fourth birthday. Reflection

This morning as I was working out on the drizzling and cool spring streets of Ridge I realized one of the most important aspects of the early morning workout— reflection! A lot of our real issues in life go unnoticed in the busyness of the everyday grind. Thinks that are bothering us get ignored because we are too busy to acknowledge that the problem even exists.  Things or people that we should pray for are neglected in the busyness of life. I’m grateful for this time of reflection and prayer as well as the calming effect of the workout. Time is passing by and I need to redeem the time before the time is up. I did the Scenic Hills, Longwood, Medford Loop doing 9.22 miles in 2:03:05 dor a 13:20 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 323 feet and an average heartrate of 115 bpm with a temperature of 50 degrees at 99 percent humidity. Next week my wife will Lord willing be in the DR on a mission trip. Have a most blessed day!

It’s a Rap

Every Friday we have an informal teacher’s meeting called a RAP session. We always close by saying “It’s a rap”.  Thus that’s how we got our title for the day. I did the adapted slightly shorter Medford, Randall, Woodlot Loop doing 8.78 in 1:57:54 for a 13:25 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 170 feet and an average heartrate of 121 bpm at a temperature of 55 degrees at 100 percent humidity. It’s been a good week. Feeling comfortably tired! God Bless you in all ways!

Drizzle on My Minnizzle

I woke up somewhat more rested and not feeling as crappie and tired as yesterday. I did the Scenic Hills, Longwood, Medford Loop doing 9.19 in 1:58:24 for a 12:52 minute per mile walking pace with an elevation gain of 339 feet with an average pulse of 118 bpm at a temperature of 55 degrees and 100 percent humidity. I enjoyed a fine drizzle hitting my face during this overcast spring morning . Spring workouts usually come with a sense of hope for an improved year of training. It’s Thursday and I enjoyed my talk with my brother on the way to work. God Bless!

It Feels Like Home

I was getting in a workout just before I headed for the ferry and home. It was a beautiful sunny morning in Hope, Maine. I hugged my dad just before leaving as I was heading for the roads and he was heading for work. I did my Howe Hill-Barnestown loop. My grandfather used to walk up Howe hill coming home from school. Now it’s my turn to climb the hill. I was greeted by singing of birds as I sauntered along the country roads of Hope and Camden. I saw some turkeys as I headed up Howe hill. They seemed unimpressed with my presence.  Today I just enjoyed being out in the country unhurried by the traffic and the usual fast pace of life. In my reflective moments I was thinking how I miss living in Maine. The key is to be where God wants me. Have a blessed day! Stats for the workout — 9.08 miles
In 2:00:22 for a 13:15 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 883 feet with an average heartrate of 121bpm at 51 degress and 64 percent humidity! A great workout in Hope, Maine!

Benefits of Perseverance

Yesterday was hectic, but thankfully today I am in goid position in being ready for the black suit event tonight and my trip to Maine tomorrow. It’s been very busy , but the payoff is when the work is done and you are set up in a good way.  I did the new workout starting with Woodlot and then the Ridge exra loop finished bu the Randall, Kastal, Ryan Loop for 9.13 in 1:59:46 for a 13:06 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 179 with a resting heartrate of 117 bpm at a temp of 61 degrees at 86 percent humidity. Adaptive

I got a text in the middle of the night saying that my daughter Rebekah’s boyfriend’s car ran out of gas and needed me to bring a gas can. So I headed out a bit after 4 in search of his car. After half an hour I found success. This put me behind schedule for my usual workouts. I decided to do the interval workout consisting of warm up and cool down and 9 x .3 mile hill sprints with equal walking recovery. Everything is speed walking except my hill sprints. Here are the stats- 7.37 miles in 1:25:22 for a 11:34 minute per mile pace with an elevation gain of 331 feet and an average heartrate of 127 bpm at a temperature of 63 degrees and 59 percent humidity. Typing this now in downtown Roosevelt as I await the coming of the mechanic for an oil change. God Bless!

Last PET

I was afforded a little easier getting around as I am coming to work half a day since I am attending Kimberly’s last PET meeting at 10:00am. I did the Randall extra plus loop doing 9.1 miles at a 12:36 minute per mile pace and an elevation gain of 175 feet and an average heartrate of 124 bpm. I don’t have an overall time since I started my watch late. I am fairly confident in the daya I have as being close to the actual. It was a warm 58 degree morning at a dry 54 percent humidity.  Still sorting through a lot of issues, sometimes it’s not that we don’t have the answers it’s just sometimes we don’t like the answers.  God grant us the grace to deal with our problems Your way and in Your strength!
