The Victory of Perseverance
I heard the rain pounding throughout the night. I checked the forecast and it said light rain. I started out on the intown loop which I often do when I’m a little behind schedule. The further down the road I got, the harder it rained. Before I hit the half mile mark it was a deluge of cold hard rain. I went past the house thinking that this could be a short workout. I usually set modified goals , but I may adjust them if the weather improves. The goal is to try to salvage a workout even if it needs to be shortened. I noticed a slight improvement even though I was soaked. I decided to head down Raynor and do 6 x the hill workout. As I progressed, the rain really let up, but the only obstacle was that I was wet. I decided to do nine hill reps with the two of them being slightly shortened by beginning at Kastal instead of the bottom of the hill. My ninth rep I hit the 7 mile mark , so I determined to try to get 8 miles in. I headed past my house all the way to where the tree line briefly begins and back(another name is the “pot” house that reeks of pot. Here are the final stats: 8.39 miles in 2:07:30 for a 15:12 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 89 bpm with an elevation gain of 325 feet with an average cadence of 130 spm at 41 soaking wet degrees. I am so grateful for this workout-Thank you Lord!

Back at It
It seems strange that I have gotten out of my daily routine. I find that my falling to sleep almost suddenly has to do with my early morning workouts. Today seemed nice even though I was behind schedule for much of the morning. I made up some time on my commute. I did the intown loop doing 9.09 miles in 2:18:34 for a 15:14 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 133 bpm with an elevation gain of 164 feet with an average cadence of 130 spm at 42 degrees. Thank you Lord for your faithfulness!

Friday/Sunday in Hope and Eastport
I had two good workouts. I had a knee issue come out of nowhere in between the workouts. Came out of nowhere and left out of nowhere. God answered my prayers. On Friday I did my usual Howe Hill loop. Felt great physically and emotionally. It was the best weather day out of my stay in Maine. I did 9.07 in 2:15:38 for a 14:56 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 174 bpm with an elevation gain of 712 feet with an average cadence of 130 spm at 40 pleasant degrees. Saturday was cold and rainy and my knee was feeling off. Thanks to the Lord and Advil I went on a hike at ship’s point with Keon. On Sunday, I felt the Lord leading me to just workout. It’s amazing how well the workout went on Route 190 going through town and up Adam’s street out to the Sipayik town line and back County Road to Key across and finished down Shackford Street. I did 9.58:38 for a 14:35 minute per mile pace with a 331 foot elevation gain with an average heart rate of 122 bpm with an average cadence of 131 spm at 38 partly sunny degrees. The best part of the weekend was spending time with my daughters, Antonio, and grandchildren. The time was blessed. To God be the Glory.

Overcoming Obstacles
This was the morning of obstacles. Bad stomach from pizza. Getting out a bit late. Kind of tired from the time change. I’ve learned to persevere and keep going and thankfully that has been enough. I did the Randall Loop, but switched to Raynor the last part instead of Randall— equals about the same. I did 9.09 in 2:17:25 for a 15:07 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 102 bpm with an elevation gain of 191 feet with an average cadence of 130 spm at 41 degrees. Thank you Lord!

Snowy Surprise
This morning I got out a few minutes earlier, but somehow I ended up at the same place time wise. I started out slowly during the workout, but thanks to a few pickups I finished at an OKAY pace. I did the 3 x Woodlot plus a short out and back for 9.29 miles in 2:19:56 for a 15:03 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 162 bpm with an elevation gain of 213 feet at an average cadence of 131 spm at 36 degrees. On the final lap, I felt little puffy balls of dampness hit my face. They turned out to be snowflakes. The snow kind of lightened my spirits a bit. God bless you my friends!

Cooler Temps
Today had the feeling of winter. The brisk breeze made it seem cooler than the actual temp. Today started out slow once again. Training is cyclical and this seems to be a slower cycle. I did 9.15 miles in 2:19:54 for a 15:17 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 147 bpm with an elevation gain of 331feet with an average cadence of 130 spm at 39 degrees. Grateful to be feeling well. Thank you Lord.

I was slow, but had very few holdups otherwise. Have a blessed day!

Strolling Along in early March
I was comfortably tired upon waking up this morning. I went to the bathroom and drank my coffee before doing my devotions. I’ve been a bit slower since coming back from vacation. I have been slightly stronger in my strength training however. This morning I did the 3 x Woodlot Loop doing 9.23 miles in 2:19:11 for a 15:05 minute per mile pace with an average heart rate of 113 bpm with an elevation gain of 236 feet with an average cadence of 131 spm at a drizzly 39 degrees. I have enjoyed using the path to avoid going past the bus students. I had a realization that in the first time in my career I am looking at the younger students and realizing that I may be finished teaching before I get them. Only the Lord knows. Have a blessed day!

Catching Up
I have been working out, just not blogging. Char and I went on a cruise last week. My workouts will pretty much just list the distance. Last week and lately, I have been working through minor physical issues. Thankfully, the Lord has enabled me to continue and they seem to be getting better. Today- March 2, 2022 I am at work without a mask. Praise God!
