Thursday/Friday

I didn't even realize that I forgot to blog for two days. Thursday and Friday were both similar days-- 25 degrees with starry skies.   I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.2 miles.  I've cut back a bit on my warm-up distance to cut back on my volume.  If I feel like I need a bit of a break I cut back in one way or another.
The last couple years have been trying years in many ways.  I seem to have more questions than answers.  My confidence and hope are in The Lord. I'm not saying that I have things down where my attitude and actions are right, but my Hope is in The Lord .  I trust him with my marriage and my family .  Have a blessed day!

Back in good season.  It was nice to get back early so that I could start the day out not rushes. Have a blessed day!

Longwood On an Icy Morning

I got out a bit later this MLK day. I quickly noticed that the roads were coated with black ice. My friend Arlem was nervously skating around Raynor Road. I changed my original route from the figure eight to the Longwood Loop. Ended up with exactly 9 miles at an averag pace. Have a blessed day!

Sleepy Head

When I woke up I was surprised to see that it was after 5 am- late by my standards. I thought for a minute about skipping the workout-- then I just decided to get up and get out the door. I'm really glad that I ran. I decided to forego the intervals and just do a conventional run.  I did the figure 8 loop which includes Ridge, Raynor, and Woodlot Roads which all connect Middle Country Road to Whiskey Road.  I enjoyed the run, probably my favorite loop around home because it is always peaceful and quiet.  I ended up doing 6.51 miles on this comfortable 30 degree day. Not a single person was out on foot. I used the MapMy Run app omy phone to measure the distance. Have a blessed day all!

Feeling Ok

I got out the door a few minutes later today-- just a bit slow and tired.  I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.4 miles.  The temp was 27 on a still and quiet Thursday morning.  Lots of things running through my mind-- dear Lord, looking to you! Have a blessed day!

Hump Day

I like Wednesday's because it puts me over the half-way point of my weeks workouts. I finally had a good night's sleep last night.  I woke up, had my coffe, got my running gear on,prayed, and headed out the door for my workout. It was 23 degrees. I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  The time seemed to go by quicker with the feeling of a good night's sleep behind me. I did 6.2 miles.  The thing with intervals, is that I just have to focus, relax, and focus.  I enjoy my quiet strip on the road where I do my intervals. I haven't seen anybody on foot in days.
Last night Bible Study went very well. I feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful church that reaches out to those in need. Have a blessed day!

A Good Start

I had a little trouble again falling asleep last night.  My family and each person's personal crises wears on a dad/husband.  I woke up at my usual time, had my Starbucks and went out the door.  The temp was right around freezing.  The skies were clearing up with a gentle cool breeze out of the north whistling through the trees.  I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.2 miles.  Th reduced mileage is feeling good on the body.  Looking forward to Bible Study tonight. Let's see how God is going to work.

Back in Time

I had a good week of training last week.  When I woke up Saturday morning , I felt tired and a bit out of it as I headed to the men's church breakfast.  By noon , I was feeling really tired and cold.  I took 2 Tylenol and went out with the family for pizza and the outlets.  After that I knew I was sick and just payed down all day.  I payed in bed as the family want to church. The night before I felt like my legs were burning under the sheets.  By mid-afternoon I had periods of feeling back to normal. At night I as feeling sick again.  When I went to bed  I suddenly knew that I was back to normal. So this morning I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 6.2 miles. Will probably cut back on the mileage a bit this week to recover fully. I just feel blessed to feel good again-- gratefully, not missing any workouts in the schedule.

A Last Minute Change

I woke up just kind of dreading the repeats, so I decided to do the Longwood Loop.  I could hear the wind whistling through the trees as I turned down Wading River Hollow Road.  I just took it kind of easy, and enjoyed the workout.  Thinking a lot about my daughter Katie breaking off all communication with me.  Breaks my heart.  Well, the distance for the day is 9.1 miles. Turned out to be a good week of training. Have a blessed weekend. By the way, it was very dark out today even with the street lights-- ran slower to avoid stepping in a pot hole.

Reminiscing

It was 9 degrees this morning as I headed out 4:41 for my 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  Today reminded me of a workout years ago with my friend Andy Seeley where we did hill repeats-- taking time in the middle to drink tea and warm up in Andy's car at the bottom of the hill on Washington Street. Today was just a solitary workout. All totaled 7.1 miles on a very cold day for Long Islanders. When I only have to brave the elements of the freezing cold it is a fun challenge as opposed building up the fortitude to get out for another freezing cold run(like running in Maine winters). Have a blessed day!

Extra

Once again it was on the cooler side at 18 degrees here on Long Island.  I like the Long Island version of winter better than the Maine version for sure.  I did 9 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery.  I felt pretty good on the repeats, in fact I felt better on the repeats than on the warm-up running .  The total for the day was 7.1 miles.  There was about an inch of snow on the ground from yesterday.  I got out at 4:35 am again.  Didn't see any walkers or runners this morning. Have a blessed day!

Cold Day for Hill Repeats

Cold only as related to Long Island standards and not by the standards of my old home in Maine.  I did my usual 8 x .3 mile hill repeats with warm-up and cool-down with equal recovery for 7.2 miles.  For some reason, I couldn't sleep th at well last night-- so I'm guessing I got around 4 hours of sleep.  It was a cloudy 19 degree day with light snow coming into the area.  I'm looking forward to Bible Study tonight after I get out of our after-school program.  God has been my strength in this difficult time in my life with two grandchildren on the way in the unexpected sort of way.  My daughter Kaitland has not communicated with me for days, which is a difficult thing when I know she is staying at her boyfriends mother's house after wanting to leave my house.  Even so, I know that God is in control.

New Beginnings

This is not my first workout of the new year, but my first run on a school day for 2015. I decided to do a distance run since I got up early enough and did 9 on Randall.  It was 45 degrees to start with, but you could feel the temps drop as the workout progressed. I love the ponds that I pass on this run. Not a soul out this early winter morning. I hear that we may get some snow tomorrow, that would be cool.  I'm so blessed to have the health and to be able to enjoy these workouts. Have a blessed day!

Wed-Thurs-Friday In a Hope, Maine

I brought my daughters Kimberly and Rebekah to Maine on Tuesday.  I got up early on Wednesday and did my usual workout around Hope at 14 degrees.  I slowly warmed into the workout and did 8.03 miles.  On Thursday I ran the usual route with a little extra for 8.19 miles.  This was my fastest pace of the three days.  On Friday I headed out the door at a balmy 27 degrees.  I did the usual for 8.04 miles.
I truly enjoy the beauty of this area with streams, ponds, and rolling mountains.  The hills definitely add a challenge.  I saw the pastor out on New Year's Day and a runner trying to sneak past on Friday. In these days my wife and I made two trips to Eastport. One to bring the girls home and the other a surprise visit.  This vacation has had it's fill of drama and some heartache, but I am grateful for the strength that The Lord provides. During this vacation, 6 of the ten workouts have been run in Maine-- back to New York. Looking forward to seeing God at work in 2015!
