March Madness

I got up hearing the rain pattering my window. I got my gear on ready to attack whatever elements that came my way. First it was drizzle dampening my clothes. Then at mile 5 I felt ice pelting my face. At mile 6 it was a steady sleet and ice. I picked up the pace just to stay warm. By the end of the run I was glad to have braved the elements for another 9.18 miles. Blessed and have a great day!

Nice End to the Week

I got out this morning to find the temperature was a comfortable 41 degrees. The sun was losing the battle with the clouds. I was pleased to be able to get the five workouts in. It's always a good feeling to get the fifth workout accomplished. I always worry myself in getting the five workouts done, and usually by the grace of God get the work done. I did the usual figure eight for 9.08 miles. Have a great weekend.

9.12 and 9.14 on Wednesday and Thursday!

I have been busy-- work has been challenging and life always throws a few curveballs at you. I did a new version of my figure 8 loop with 2 x Middle Country and 1 x Apple Court. Both days I ran about the same pace. I've been tired , but not quite lethargic. I've tried to give a decent effort  without killing myself. Yesterday, we missed the snow , but the winds were howling and the a temperature cold. Today it was 22 degrees, but the sun was out. My entire house is sick. I hope that they all get better soon. I am blessed to be able to train in another beautiful area. My workouts are my sanctuary from the distractions of life. I often use the workouts as a time to reflect, pray, and problem solve. Blessed-- have a great day!

Marching back Into Winter

I didn't check the temp this morning, before I headed out the door. The temperature seemed cool--but--it couldn't be too bad. Well, I got out early so I decided to do the Longwood loop for a total of 8.94 miles. I saw a rabbit and Ed walking his dogs on Apple Court. I felt good as I ambled along the pre-dawn streets of Ridge. I ended up with one of my better times without killing myself. When I arrived back home I noticed that the temperature was 14 degrees--cold for March with snow on the way. Anyway, despite the trials of life I am blessed! Have a geat day!

Springing into Winter

The sun was bright when it snuck out for sunrise, but the temperature felt like January with a shrill breeze coming out of the north over Long Island Sound. I did a different variation of my figure eight for 8.96 miles. I felt decent ,  but not world beating. I saw fellow runner Chuck coming up the hill on Raynor as I was entering my second lap. Blessed to get the work in! Have a great day!

Beautiful Friday!

It is so quiet in the early morning here in Ridge. I did 9 miles on the Longwood Loop. I had the streets all to myself  save one walker on Middle Country. This area is beautiful for sure. I find myself soaking in the scenery as I meander through Ridge. This part of Long Island is beautiful-- and it's spring. My youngest daughter Kimberly turns 15 on Sunday-- oh how I miss her and her sisters. God Bless!

Thurs 10- Fri. 8- Sat. 8- Mon. 8.9-Wednesday. 8.9 -Thurs 9

I've been so busy with running in Eastport,Hope, and back home in Ridge. I've put workouts on dailymile, but not blogging--sorry. I prefer the blog , but dailymile is quicker with my phone app. Life has been busier than I like, but I did run in a blizzard, and I'm slippery streets while in Maine. I so enjoyed my time with my daughters , but the time goes by too quickly. Life here on the Island is good , but very busy. I am keeping my eyes focused on Jesus. Have a great day!

Tues-Thursday

I did my hill repeat of 8 x .3 miles for a total of 6.5 on Tuesday. Took Wednesday off with a trip to Eastport and a visit with my brother and family on the docket.  Today I did 10.27 around Eastport. I will try to write more tomorrow. God Bless!

Pleasant Run in the Snow

This was my first workout after the time change. I felt o.k., more mentally out of it than physically.  I did the Randall run.  I felt a bit of moisture hitting my face. I wasn't sure if it was rain or snow.  When a car went by I was surprised to see a light snow falling. This is the best type of snow,it's pretty falling but melts as it hits the ground.  I did 8.9 miles. I felt surprisingly good considering I did all my goblet squats on the weekend. My hill sprints were strong.
A couple of birthdays this month. My daughter Rebekah turns 16 on the 12 and Kimberly turns 15 on the 23 rd. I sense a surprise may be coming. Have a blessed day.

Great Start to Friday

I got out at 4:30 this morning gliding along the streets of Ridge. It was a milder 27 degree workout. I did the Longwood Loop to change things up a bit.  Nobody stirring at all in the wee hours of the morning. I was dressed just right--not too hot nor too cold. I felt decent for the second day in a row for 8.95 miles. Looking forward to the weekend and a couple of off running days, although I do the bulk of my leg work with the weights. My wife and I have been hiking both days of the weekend as well--kind of active rest. My step-son Jace has a wrestling match tonight.  Have a blessed weekend!

Old Man Winter Doesn't Want to Go

This is the winter that just doesn't want to end. It was 16 degrees and very windy this morning. I felt quick for once-- and ran a much better pace today with the extra zip in the legs. I did 8.85 on Randall. This is a pleasant loop to run and offers a nice change of pace. Not many folks afoot on this chilly late winter morning. Looking forward to seeing my daughters in Maine soon! Have a blessed day!

Going Through the Motions

The last couple of months has been a victory of habit over enthusiasm. I'm grateful that even though I don't feel like it ,I still get out there and get the work in.  I'm always glad when it is done that I made the effort. Nice time at Bible study even though I almost fell asleep--due to tiredness!  It was a balmy 19 degrees. I ran a bit faster and was not quite as sore this morning--gratefully. Strength training has been going decent of late. Have a blessed day and thanks for reading this humble blog.  Oh yeah, did 9.12 miles with my weight down to 192.

Thoughts of Moving South

My first three winters here were not bad--mostly 30 degree morning runs--not bad. This year, teens, single numbers, and a couple just below zero--this is Long Island not Maine. I got in my usual multi-layered garb and gave it the old college try. I saw a rabbit and a family of four deer. The grounds are covered in white once again. All things said and done I am grateful to get the workouts in. God is good!

Cold and Snow makes it Slow

I woke up to see the streets blanketed with a thin coat of snow. I checked the temp and dressed accordingly.  I was surprised when I hit the road that it was freezing and uncomfortable. I warmed as I progressed on the run.  My time was a couple minutes faster than Friday, but the snow limited my speed. Nonetheless, another workout in the books. I am so blessed to have this workout time--it has been a constant over the years. I am so blessed and God has been so good to me. I'm looking forward to seeing the things that God has in store for me and my family!
